OKAY as a lifelong Chicagoan who has been in NYC for the last year I feel qualified on this subject.
NYC is not the greatest city in the world, Chicago is. NYC is a great place to visit but annoying as hell to live and work in.
I reverse commute Manhattan to JFK and even though we have a great public transit system, it still takes me two hours to get to work and it’s AWFUL.
We can’t afford to live here. I have three roommates in an apartment the size of most people’s living rooms in Chicago. We have no living room.
Dating was hard here. There were literally too many options on apps so no one ever talked to each other, and going out is so expensive it’s likely you’re with everyone you want to be with. I’m dating someone from PGP.
All in all, it’s a great city, but even after my year so far of living here, I stand by my opinion: it’s a great place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there.
I agree with all of these, quality moves… except the “not my first rodeo” to the photographer. Man, I am a wedding photographer and the last wedding I was a bridesmaid in, I wanted to jump in and start posing people myself. Had to remind myself… not my circus, not my monkeys. Went and had another drink or five.
I will often push for passengers gate checking bags, partially because I can eyeball what will fit in our overhead bins, partially because boarding goes so much faster when people just have their small bag.
The amount of people putting purses and coats in the overheads is infuriating.
I will never check my bags unless I absolutely have to. Working in the industry has given me the ability to pack for 6+ days in a carryon. Even a weekend in Spain I did with a backpack.
Spent Friday night imbibing a squirt bottle full of vodka and a couple beers. Did bottomless brunch at 11am Saturday and didn’t stop until 12 hours later when I puked on the street. Was also at bottomless marg brunch Sunday at 10am. Finally had to stop the bender by 2pm.
Even the UES is not THAT chill. If dudeman doesn’t like crowds and noise, what is he doing in NYC at all? I mean the upper west side may be more his speed if he wants Manhattan, but you’re definitely right, he should be commuting in from suburbia.
Peopls shit on Holiday Inns a LOT but honestly they’re some of the most consistent, decent (sometimes really nice), hotels I stay in. The one in Cincinnati also has a dry sauna. The hot tub/sauna combo is dope after a long day.
Yes, find me in the airport with the literal shakes because I’ve been mainlining coffee for the last ten hours. No coffee in my hand? Probably just because there was no coffee shop. Don’t drink the airplane coffee unless you REALLY need to.
Use it as an opportunity to better yourself without fundamentally changing who you are as a person. Other than that… if him being an ass bothers you, do something. Otherwise don’t let it faze you.
Advantage at DCA always takes care of me. I always choose the “dealers choice” and usually I get something solidly middle of the road but happily newer than any car I’ve ever owned.
Something non Midwesterners just don’t get- going up to the lake, which is always someone’s uncle’s cabin. A favorite in summer and fall… but you are correct, oh so vibey in the late fall. Light a fire and get that bitch cozy.
My playlist as of late has been the Blink-182 pandora station. Gives me just enough anger to keep running. Then… yeah metal/rap for lifting. That stuck with me since my days on the track team though.
Many people from my hometown don’t leave my hometown. My mom grew up five blocks from where I did and knew many of my friend’s parents from high school… so yeah there were quite a few alums from my high school at homecoming every year. I’ve only gone back once, but I might in the future.
One of my apartments in college had one normal fridge, one mini fridge for the extra food, and one mini fridge dedicated solely to beer. It was definitely the right move.
The last bachelorette party I went to was the worst. The maid of honor’s party style did not match the bride’s at all, and that was a bad start. Everything was planned last minute. The MOH didn’t have venmo. She dropped tons of last minute costs on us. We didn’t go out for any real dinner at all. There was no booze in the two hour limo ride the MOH forced on us. Bridesmaids were dropping out of the party until the day of. And there was no theme whatsoever. Literally everything could have gone better.

Carryon and a backpack. Watch videos of military guys packing. Do laundry or buy stuff as needed.
Light blue Gatorade, a bloody or five, and a gallon of water is the ONLY move for a Sunday.

Just stole one of my dad’s 90s sweaters that he finally decided to retire in favor of more modern looks, it’s gonna be a great winter to get cozy.

I… okay. Well I guess it’s time. Bring on this wedding planning Pinterest nightmare.
