At least when it’s a surprise party it isn’t the birthday boy/girl inviting you. I always feel obligated to say yes when someone is inviting me to celebrate themselves.
My last job was sales-based and we had a company-wide groupme where they encouraged us to post selfies and make them into memes to celebrate our sales. Too many meme guys.
First of all, I’m jealous of your cable bill. Second of all, completely agree about live sports. Only reason I have actual cable instead of just watching things online. Interested to see what happens since I think most leagues now have their own streaming service for out of market games and a lot of local tv affiliates (our local Fox Sports does this) have their own streaming service for web and apps for live games. Wonder if they’ll all be willing to give up the revenue for that to sell to a third party that controls all live sports regardless of if you’re “in-market” or not for the tv broadcast.
To the first question- my former roommate was my best friend, and started dating a guy who was really cool until he developed a substance abuse problem. When he was sober he was great, but most of the time he wasn’t. He got her into legal trouble by getting caught with it while she was with him, and I saw him shove her one time. I punched him in the face (maybe not the best move), he cried and apologized. I talked openly with her about seeking counseling from al anon or something similar. She decided that I was the problem for “not supporting” her relationship. She moved out and we haven’t spoken since, they just got married last month and shockingly I wasn’t invited. You can phrase it as nicely as you want and it can come from a place of genuine concern, but if she doesn’t want to hear it be prepared for it to lead to the end of your relationship with her.
The hate on this confuses me, who wants to hang out with their boss? Mine is only 5 years older than me and thinks we should be friends. I love my job and it’s nice in theory that she likes me, but stressful in actuality to come up with new ways to turn down her invites without being rude. I’m in work detox on my lunch break, nevertheless after work or on the weekends..
Came here to say this. I hated my last apartment but there were lots of people who would use the charcoal grill outside my building, fill it with an obscene amount of charcoal, grill their food right away, and then take their food and abandon the grill right when the coals got to the perfect point. That’s when I made my move. Such a time saver.
I’m in the process of moving into my first solo apartment this week. Moving blows, but it’s stuff like this article that make me feel justified in spending so much on rent instead of having a roommate.
Great article. I get that it can be frustrating to feel like everyone is talking about the same thing if it’s something you’re not into. But is it really so terrible for people to find something they’re excited about that connects them to others?
Acknowledged. I pre-gamed dinner too hard.
……….i ate mac and cheese for dinner last night and I’m trying to decide if I feel too ashamed to eat the leftovers for lunch now.
How do I convince my boss this is a valid need for two months of PTO…sup, Wells?

Extreme facepalm moment when I read this headline and thought it meant viewing parties for the tv show franchise. Thank god it’s Friday.

Team rivalries are more sacred than religion to me, I need to know up front.
Not even trying to be sarcastic, but actually wondering: does anyone here really pay for HBO?

If Todd had a sister this wouldn’t be happening.
But really is it normal to not see an engagement as leading to marriage because that threw me for a loop
I can see this happening to me and resulting in extreme debt/having to pack lipstick for lunch.
It’s always awkward when my phone decides to add extra “ha’s” and I don’t notice until it’s too late…
