I know everyone is sick of hearing about massively popular ’90s television shows trying to make ill-advised comebacks. Full House and The X-Files both come to mind. However, if Nickelodeon wants to keep trotting out dank game shows, I’m all for it.
Per Entertainment Weekly:
Nickelodeon has announced that it’s also bringing back Double Dare for a commemorative special airing on Nov. 23.
However, unlike the fictional Hidden Temple movie, the half-hour special will contain vintage footage as well as new games taped this year, along with a look behind the scenes.
First, it was Legends Of The Hidden Temple and now we’re about to see the return of Marc Summers, quite possibly the greatest game show host of all time. For me, it goes 1A. Alex Trebek, 1B. Marc Summers, 50. Pat Sajack, and then the rest is just details. I always found Double Dare to be kind of disgusting, though. Like, Summers was always in some nice ass suit while he watched people dive into pools of syrup and then immediately get forced into rolling around in a bed full of dry macaroni or something. Just degrading shit. But the prizes were always much better than they were on that show with Summer Sanders, Figure It Out, so I guess it’s all about checks and balances.
I’m sure that the obstacle course is going to be revamped with some harder, more appropriately themed stuff since it’s been twenty years since the first show, but I’m hoping Nickelodeon producers decide the keep the original set for nostalgia’s sake. .
