Duda, I love this article. I used to do this when I moved to work in a flyover state where I knew nobody. I would do a 2-3 hour road-trip to the nearest big city and stay in a fancy hotel downtown for the weekend. Worth every penny.
I HATE that. Another variation is when casual acquaintances or coworkers start throwing out random friend names Like Bob or Sue in a story expecting you to know who they are. Can you explain who these people are first before throwing their names around!?
Agreed, dirty sixth has a bad rap, but it can be fun for a random wasted night out. Especially if you’ve never been there before, and if youre in your early-to-mid 20’s. Start out and get a flaming dr pepper at cheers shot bar, then do the standard bar hop of Library, Aquarium, Chugging Monkey, Maggie Maes. Then make your way on to West 6th st and end the night there.
Unfortunately Uber Pool/Lyft Line doesnt exist in Houston yet, so its just regular expensive Ubers for me. But Uber Pool is pretty clutch in other cities Ive been to: Boston, Chicago etc. In NYC its worth it to pay for the more expensive Ubers and Lyfts, last time we spent 2 hours+ in traffic waiting for other passengers and trying to get a few miles away.
Google credit card sign up bonuses for 2018. Go for the credit card that has the highest sign up bonus. You should easily be able to get a sign up bonus with 50k-70k miles/points with any of the major airlines and cards (Southwest, American, United, Chase Sapphire, Barclays Card, Capital one Venture, Delta, AMEX, Citi Thank you). Thats enough points for a free roundtrip ticket to Europe, or 2 roundtrip tickets in the US.
Sounds like they now need you more than you need them. If you ever leave then the company is screwed. Use this to negotiate a huge raise, or threaten to leave and fish for other offers.
Its funny because you say that we can all agree that its been a hard year for America. I would bet that most Republicans do not agree with you, they are happy Obama is out of office and are applauding the tax bill.
All of the issues that you mentioned: racial tension, NFL kneeling, police brutality, gender equality etc. were prevalent issues when Obama was in office, this is not a new thing under Trump. I hope you understand that all of these issues didn’t appear overnight just because Trump is in office now.
It was a great year for me. I made a lot of money at work and in the stock market, job is going great, I have a lot of new job opportunities on the horizon, economy is doing great. Its not all doom and gloom out there like you think.
I hope you dont take any of this the wrong way. You are entitled to your opinion, just like I am. I also wish you a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!
Great story! Maybe I missed something, but who is Steve? Was he the roommate or the douchebag rich guy? I dont think this was ever clarified in the story.
Here’s an even better tip ladies: Show up on time, smell good, be polite, be sweet, smile, laugh, be genuine, flirt, compliment the guy. These have 100% chance of success on a first date.
I used to partake in coke on occasion with friends back in college. These days its a once in a 2-3 year type event, maybe when the band is back in town. I dont really know anybody who does coke all the time, even with my druggie friends who used to be big into it. Weed is moreso the drug of choice for most young professionals I know.
I empathize with you Duda. Usually a big night out like this for me requires a nap, light meal, and several red bull vodkas before feeling in the zone. I try and go out to bar districts where you can just walk short distances from bar to bar. Grab a drink at one bar then bounce for the next, rinse and repeat.
Duda, I generally agree with this article. However, if you live in a boring crappy city like; Dayton, San Antonio, Orlando, Tulsa, then I think moving to a much better city may make you a lot happier. Also, if you really like beaches or mountains and you live in OKC, then moving to San Diego or Denver may make you happier as well.
Victoria, just a suggestion. Don’t rule out remote WFH jobs. Depending on what you are looking to do, it might be easier to find a WFH job than it is to find a job in a different city. This way you are not tied to one city, if you move there and hate it, you can always move somewhere else.
Agreed, GPA matters for most of the top compettive jobs right out of college. I’m a corporate recruiter for a fortune 100 company and we have a 3.5 minimum GPA cutoff for our internships and entry level jobs in: Engineering, Supply’s Chain, Finance, HR, IT etc. Ask any engineering student with a sub 3.0 GPA how many job offers they had compared to a student with a 3.8, there is no Comparison.
However, after your first job GPA becomes less important and it’s more about skills, accomplishments, previous experience, connections etc.
I was in the same situation as you. I had been on all the dating apps for 2 years and finally met a girl who would later be my girlfriend. Honestly, these apps exist to make us addicted to them. In the same way that the first thing we do when we wake up is check facebook, IG, Twitter etc. its the same with dating apps. We become addicted to the thrill of the match, and become so accustomed to waking up and start swiping like its a normal part of the day. It was so hard to eventually delete the apps because it was so routine for me after swiping everyday for 2 years straight.
Houston guy, Im born and raised in Houston and its not that bad. Its the 4th biggest city in the US, so it has a little something for everyone, theres always something going on in the city. However, its a little unfair for your girl to ask you to quit your job and move there with her. Why dont you talk to your boss and see if you could work out some type of remote arrangement where you can work from home in Houston a month at a time, or something similar.
3 football player dude, I wouldnt get back with her knowing what you know. It would always be on the back of my mind her sleeping with 3 fball players in 7 months. I could deal with maybe one fball player, but not 3!

Agreed, loved my stay there during the summer. Pool had some nice talent as well.

Im from Houston as well, can confirm being exposed to Lean in HS lol.
I churn 2-3 of these credit card bonuses every year, I havent had to pay for a flight or hotel in 3 years!

The same with North Dakota lol. There is nothing else to do there in the winter (or any other time) besides drink.
