A LOT of content on here illustrates how human communication has devolved to a level which would have ten years ago on average been considered to be ASD spectrum. This is a generational thing and without question worse in English speaking countries (I’ve lived in four of them).
Kudos to the writers and staff who call out poor behavior, but some more ‘holy crap what is wrong with you people take responsibility and sort yourself out’ would do well.
It feels like half the mailbag Qs are “I’m incapable of communicating and so is everyone else around me, help”…without realizing that’s what they are saying!
This is all more commentary on content then the PGP business as a whole, keep kicking ass, been a very longtime reader. I just hope our generation/humans in general can sort our shit out!
Arcadia & occaisionally Duda’s content are solid. The mailbags are excellent and the podcast generally outstanding.
I’ve been reading this site since it’s inception and it seems the primary struggle is aging with the audience. Much of the staff are probably late 20s or thereabouts. A move away from celebrating the flaky awkward horrible communication (etc etc) of millennials and towards…well, something opposite (commentary? How-to’s?) would be challenging but celebrated.
On that note, far and away the best content I see on here are Dillon’s responses to ridiculous mailbag questions with, “stop being ridiculous/step it up/the decision is obvious/JUST COMMUNICATE!”…so more of the same, in that direction, would be great!!
Too often I’ll read an article on here and just cringe at the daily operations of our generation: the in-between relationships, the deliberate non-communications, the celebration of misery/mediocrity…but there’s been plenty of vibe on here towards positivity, actioning improvement and growth…so keep heading in that direction!
Most of these questions each week can be summarized as, “I’m incapable of basic adult communication and action and know the answer but want you to spoon feed me”…
Scary how useless our generation can be.
Most of these Qs are wasting the time of very decent writers.
Jesus Batman dude! Stop talking about making plans and MAKE PLANS!! Are you SURE you’re from Boston? I swear we had people typing in full sentences when I grew up there (27 now).
He can probably see lights and colors but still legally blind, and you’d be surprised what blind people can manage. I work in professional sports and watched a (blind) Paralympic Long Jumper do a Clean and Jerk with well over my PB this past weekend!! That is taking >200lbs and tossing it overhead, catching it cleanly…
Dude! She invited you into her home, where she is alone…does she need to put up a sign saying “please make a move”?! Clearly she didn’t want to risk the vibe fading away, so she invited you over…she’s probably nervously trying to look busy and wondering why you haven’t made a move yet. Come on Charlie, be better than this. I believe in you.
PS What to talk about? 1) find a point of reference from StPday 2) “what do you like to do when you’re not working?” this tells you her interests and allows for an ensuing conversation about what your next date can be, doing fun things she enjoys.
I say the following with a lot of love for the posts you write–I really enjoy them.
Your story is emblematic of how electronic communication/social media has ruined human communication.
Dude–we all have moments where we aren’t at your best. Next time, respond, “Far from it(boring)! I’d just had a long day. Speak soon” then follow up a couple of days later.
If you ever write “Hey” as a communication, you don’t deserve a response. There’s no instigation to participate in a dialogue if there is no content to engage in.
Nick, as a PGP who just happens to have a master’s in sports nutrition and work in pro sports, please allow me to say your girlfriends diet sounds beyond idiotic. Flick me a text, happy to help a brotha out.
Bummer to hear that you’ve had this experience. It’s certainly in that direction with the 28 and over crowd (I’m 26) but I’ve had no such issues with anyone my age. Sometimes you just have to reciprocate.
As much as I enjoyed your columns early on (a LOT) they’ve turned pretty whiny lately…hope Austin gives you new life!!
Interesting that all these comments slamming Eric assume Alyssa is being truthful…

Meant as a compliment
Fairly obvious in both cases that a date was handed to you on a platter and you dropped it.

Cheers all.
All solid and valid…and women do many of these things too.
This is a somewhat terrifying microcosm of how weak our generation is.
How about you meet someone amazing who’ll cope with your current career focus?
Also: “terrible at texting” why do people say this much less accept it?

You got this.
Great stuff–I’m a fan of this site so let me know if you want some help…I coach Olympians.
