As a huge fan of “The Hills,” I would be a fool to not also be a fan of “Laguna Beach.” It was the show that brought us Lauren versus Kristin. Stephen, Trey, and Lo. And then a million second tier characters like Dieter Schmitz. If you can’t remember Dieter it’s okay, he was pretty forgettable during his time on “Laguna Beach.”
He’s probably best known for being best friends with L.C. and Stephen Colletti, and he also dated this one girl named Jessica before she ditched his sorry ass for Jason. That was a tough episode to watch. But all of that is way in the past, and this past weekend Dieter had his wedding which actually turned into an impromptu “Laguna Beach” reunion.
A little background here. Stephen had this love triangle going on with Lauren and Kristin during the first season of “Laguna Beach,” and Stephen and Lauren remained friends after the dust had settled from that colossal shitshow. Actually, now that I think about it, I may just have to rewatch “Laguna Beach” from start to finish. “The Hills” had some great drama, but nothing really compares to the popular kids in a privileged school district fighting over the most trivial shit imaginable.
Lauren has, for the most part, avoided the public eye since “The Hills” ended, but every so often I’ll see her on the cover of Cosmo or Vanity Fair talking about her new line at Kohl’s. I have to respect anyone who can make a career out of well, just creating drama out of thin air. It looks like everyone had fun. I just wish Kristin had shown up and started some shit..
