Turkey / Quarterback
What’s the first thing you think about when “Thanksgiving” is mentioned? As much as I hate to admit it, the quarterback is the leader of the team and Thanksgiving lives and dies by the turkey.
There are many methods to cooking a turkey, and all of them suck unless you brine the damn thing. Dry turkey is plain awful and slapping on gravy shouldn’t be your Bandaid for the bullet wound. Turkey should be accentuated with gravy, not fixed. This year, I’ll be brining mine for two days in a salt bath with some maple syrup, Bourbon (Buffalo Trace) and brown sugar. There’s other stuff, but that’s the basics. You can never go wrong with the oven method, but I would love to do a smoked or deep fried turkey sooner than later. There is the “white vs. dark meat” debate, but honestly, get a little of both. It won’t kill you and they are both delicious.
I’m running a goal line offense this year with a stacked O-Line.
If stuffing is the fullback then I’m running a Navy style offense because I can’t get enough of that stuff.
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Cornbread is my Shane Lechler of Punter corn.
Turkey is the 40 year old QB that is a legend and you have to respect him, but there are better players in the league/kitchen.
He’s a future HoFer
Are you comparing Turkey to all other foods, or all other meats?
Comparing it to all other foods on Thanksgiving. There is no Thanksgiving without turkey but give me stuffing and mashed potatoes in the 1 and 2 spot.
Ok, I thought you were suggesting that you would rather eat ham like a fucking pagan.
I’ve always been partial to a salted ham rather than a glazed ham, family tradition. But if you don’t know you need to soak a salted ham before cooking it… it can go oh so wrong.
What kind of animal doesn’t like stuffing
Turkeys
Hey, the Backyard Brawl is coming back……in 7 years.
Sounds like you have the Morten Andersen of hams. My mouth is watering, can’t wait for Thursday.
Sorry, turkey is a mediocre meal at best. I’ve always said, if an entire holiday is centered on a meal, they shoulda picked a better one like a pork shoulder or ribeyes or a good lasagna or something.
You should invent a time machine and tell the pilgrims.
Not sure if I’m the only one, but my family always has baked ziti or lasagna to go with the traditional Thanksgiving meals. Might be weird, but I love having it.
Sounds like you’re a member of the Soprano Family
