Whenever I travel to a new city, my go-to to find out where to eat is Yelp. I don’t trust restaurant websites; I trust random strangers writing reviews on the Internet. And now the folks at Yelp have made it even easier for me to expand my culinary palette when I visit a new locale, by compiling a list of the Top 100 Restaurants in the U.S.
So how did they do it? Well, according to the folks at Yelp, “To determine Yelp’s Best Places to Eat in 2016, we analyzed which places were the all-time most popular and well reviewed on Yelp. Businesses from across the country were compared using a ranking that looks at both the ratings and the number of reviews while accounting for quality, popularity, and statistical fluctuations. To localize the list, only reviews written by users whose profiles list their home location as within the reviewed businesses’ country were factored into the ranking. Businesses must be primarily a restaurant or place to eat a meal to be included on the list and must abide by Yelp’s Terms of Service and Content guidelines.”

Potato balls don’t do it for you? Well, I automatically don’t like you, but here’s a snap from number 2, Berkeley’s Cheese Board Pizza:
Is it wrong to eat my lunch at 10:30am? .

Alinea in Chicago (#19) is permanently closed. Girl and the Goat (#38) has some weird things on the menu but don’t be deterred, most are pretty good. Also, there’s no way California has this much great food.
As someone moving to Chicago in June, where do you think is the best BBQ in the city?
Smoque BBQ on the North side is solid. Lillie’s Q in Bucktown and Green Street in West Loop. Twin Anchors in Lincoln Park is old and a classic. Lem’s is way up there but that’s far south side.
In your backyard if you’re competent.
I’ll be lame, I’ve never had a bad meal at Weber.
California actually does have this much great food, I’ve been to a few places on the list and they all have really good menus. California is a huge state with a lot of big cities LA/San Diego/SF each with a huge diversity of restaurant options. But a lot of upscale cities between those cities as well like La Jolla, Newport, Santa Barbara.
Sure, I expected just by sheer size/numbers that CA would be prevalent, but there’s no way it makes up 46% of the best restaurants in America.
I can agree with that, it does appear to have a bias towards California restaurants. I’m sure some of the places don’t deserve a spot on this list and a lot of great and worthwhile places outside California were left off for whatever reasons.
If you don’t think California has this much great food, then you’ve never talked to a Californian and witness a rant about how much great food California has.
Not having been to a single one. PGP.
Not living within 1,000 miles of any of them. PGP
She says “I’m a foodie.”
I hear “I’m expensive.”
Mama’s Fish House is hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. This list makes me wish I didn’t always have to work through lunch.
Mansaf at #100 is worth the waistline. Ike’s at #24 though? Above average at best.
Bogarts and Pappies are both amazing BBQ places in St. Louis, but I have no idea how Bogarts is higher. Pappies ribs are the GOAT.
Porto’s Bakery always has a line out the door, definitely worth the wait for the food though.
Considering I wasn’t immediately fired after cutting off the tip of my finger on my first shift at Los Agaves, I’m questioning its #16 ranking.
Also questioning Mama D’s at #8. Though I’ll still probably go sometime this weekend if anyone wants to join.
I’m going to think about this next time I go, but rest assured, I will still be going back.
Questioning “High Functioning” if you need a safety knife.
I blame the shakes.
Guess I have to finally try Zahav now.
Fiancée and I have been trying to go for a while. Need to make a reservation 3 months in advance unless you enjoy having dinner at 3:45PM.
Dizengoff is their sister restaurant and only serves humus. It’s worth trying.
Gus’ in Memphis was pretty meh
