  • THEmrs.halpert 7 years ago on Young Married Couple With No Kids Desperately Seeks Friends In The Same Boat

My husband and I relocated last year and were in the same situation. A few friends from college in the area, but just want to rage constantly. Which is cool for them but we’re more of a dinner then drinks and home by midnight crowd. I’m down to get a little drunk but I don’t need to be shutting the place down anymore. LONG STORY SHORT…out of desperation we went to Meetup.com and found a DINK group who met up once a month for dinner or whatever. We went and we’re easily the youngest people there by 10 years. It was weird…haven’t gone back.

  • THEmrs.halpert 8 years ago on The Financial Advice My Parents Gave Me That Stopped Me From Being A Bankrupt 25-Year-Old

I’m not the best at keeping a budget. I’ve tried. Not a big fan of mint either. The one thing I do do successfully is save like a mad woman. I’ve been putting away. 20% of every paycheck I earned since I was 18. Last year I started putting away an extra $50 from every paycheck to have “spending money” for a vacation, so I wouldn’t dip into my normal expense account. the vacation has come and gone but it’s nice to have that little account growing. $100 a month adds up quick and makes great fun money to use for a weekend trip. I also have 2 credit cards. One I don’t use often, but it was my first card and I keep it open to maintain a longer credit history. Mature cards are good for your credit score. I also have a travel rewards card that I have been using (and paying off monthly) to pay for my upcoming wedding and honeymoon. Already have over $500 in travel/airfare rewards. It will come in handy for all wedding weekends I have coming up next year.

That’s a bummer. I’ll say this. I know people that have kids who say they wish they had them youngers, so they’d be out of the house sooner. be empty nesters and enj I y retirement money before they get too old… silver lining?

  • THEmrs.halpert 8 years ago on I just got notice I'm getting transferred to Tulsa. PGP.

I moved here from Dallas 6 months ago for my husband’s job and HATED it. Literally counting down until we can go back to Dallas (approx 18-24 months). HOWEVER, both of our jobs are in the burbs, and we subsequently spend 90% of our time here. The liquor laws in this state are terrible, but you slowly get used to it (granted we went to school at OU so were familiar with the laws). Now that it’s getting warmer we’ve been exploring downtown and it’s actually not bad. it’s not Dallas, but there’s stuff to do. A surprising number of live music venues, minor league sports teams, art galleries. If you look for stuff to do, you can find it. Also, Tulsa young professionals (typros is what they call themselves) has a major presence in the city and has had a hand in modernizing the city. worth

  • THEmrs.halpert 8 years ago on Do People Actually Use Washcloths?

We’re a #TeamPouf household. I have a few wash cloths and they’re only for guests. I don’t use them to remove makeup. I’m not sure why you’d need such a heavy duty tool to remove it unless you’re a professional clown, my hands work just fine. I’ll sometimes use a wash cloth in the shower when I’m traveling, but I don’t enjoy it.

  • THEmrs.halpert 8 years ago on What My Girlfriend Says vs. What She Means On Valentine's Day

My birthday and Valentine’s day are just a few days apart so I generally expect one big fancy date to combine the two and call it even. In reality all I want is to get dressed up, have a nice dinner and drink too much wine. I’m not a cheap date, but you could argue the 2 for 1 special saves money in the long run.

  • THEmrs.halpert 8 years ago on It’s Not Even February And My PTO Is Spoken For

This is my reality as well. 15 days and no sick time. Thanks to a recent move I burned more PRO then planned and only have a couple role over days. next year I have a 1 week vacation, 3 weddings, my OWN wedding and “hopefully” a honeymoon. That’s not including Christmas with my family in CA. Thank the Lord my company let’s us go negative on PTO (up to 40 hrs). And I think we can get out of 1 of the 3 weddings we’re invited to. I’m actually surprised we were even invited so I doubt she’d miss us. I’m taking vitamins like Chris Traeger because I have ZERO time to get sick.

  • THEmrs.halpert 8 years ago on Your Guide To Working The Week Between Christmas And New Year’s

I took off last week to travel for christmas. My boss was just happy I am here to “cover” this week with everyone gone. I have fallen down the black hole of a new podcast, “Criminal”, and done minimal work all week. It has been glorious. I would rather save my PTO for a vacation next summer.
