This is a fair point, but Memorial Day has also become synonymous with the unofficial start of summer for most people. I agree that there should be some sobriety around the purpose of the holiday, but I don’t think taking exception to people saying “Happy Memorial Day!” is fair.
I don’t think you should be upset with people for “celebrating” a national holiday that has become inextricably linked to taking time off work, being outdoors, and nice weather.
That said, I’m not a military guy, so what the hell do I know.
I don’t think you need to retract your Tom Collins take. It has long been an established fact that a Tom Collins is the Best and Most Suitable Summer Cocktail (thanks in no small part to your previous article), but getting totally buckled on them is foolish. Doesn’t mean you should abandon them completely.
This is a terrible take. Food trucks are a low cost way for chefs to get their brand out before taking the risk/debt associated with a restaurant, and reach a wider audience.
Kogi BBQ in LA and Korilla in NYC are great examples of this.
With my close friends I rarely use Venmo because I assume most things will “come out in the wash” i.e. if buy a round here, they’ll buy lunch there… I would say in the long run my close buddies and I are close to even.
Venmo is a game changer for balancing the books with the periphery – like the co-worker you go out to happy hour with once every three month.

Thank you for setting the record straight. This article is both Correct and Good. Let’s move past this asinine debate.
“…mistakenly introducing myself to the bride’s dad when I thought he was just a random old dude”.
I don’t see how this is a faux pas.
The better the view, the worse the establishment. Works for restaurants too.
I would estimate that people who live in California say the word “California” 20 times, minimum, per day.

I got eviscerated for this take on Nick’s last column. I agree with you and stand by my original take.
Don’t give into the idea that an “anniversary” is a thing when you’re dating, man. It is not a thing.
You get one anniversary – the day you get married. That’s it. You get one.
