Most young Republicans have been saying this for years now. Stay out of social issues, worry about the economy and limit the size of government. It’s why the GOP is losing support among young voters. Most of us honestly couldn’t care less about someone’s sexual orientation, right to choose, or what the bible says about marriage. All we ask is that you make sure that our dollars still have value and our country is safe…or ya know, give us another party to vote for.
Fiscally conservative and socially liberal is the only viewpoint that makes any sense. It’s also completely unrepresented in American politics.
Hang in there, because it will be here soon. As terrible as it sounds: the older generations need to die off in order for this country to go through a much-needed, drastic change.
To be fair though, running on social issues does give the GOP a lot of votes from people who would actually benefit from the DFL’s policies: i.e. anybody besides rich white people
I disagree that people benefit from democrat economic policies. Not having to work in order to make a living doesn’t leave anyone better off. You’re basically enslaving them to the state because over time, they lose all ability/desire to support themselves, and thus, are at the mercy of their masters.
A government big enough to give you everything you need, is strong enough to take it all away.
It’s like you’re after my heart, Bosley.
Seriously. The GOP had THE perfect opportunity to turn that corner the last election. Not that they’ve been particularly fiscally responsible as of recent though. Maybe they’ll get it eventually.
The people who vote are unrepresented by most elected officials on a National to Local level. It’s in a bad state that needs to turn around soon. Both sides don’t even explain an actual plan during debates they’re basically just jabbing each other in hopes voters will remember their funny joke on the other guy. It’s all bad I don’t even care to vote anymore.
The only disagreement I have with your posit is that some of us are pro-life and very much do care what the Bible says about marriage, and life in general. However, I think it is a moral issue, and the goverment has no place legislating morality or establishing what should be considered moral in the first place. Social issues should be decided and enforced at home. Fiscal issues are what we need to be voting on.
Amen
Cuban 2016.
I think it would be awesome to televise members of Congress pitching their budgets and ideas to Cuban Shark Tank style.
The issue is the young people that do vote are the ones voting on social issues. You don’t see a movement of youth to protect and fix social security, even though that will be the biggest factor for us.. not legal weed and gay marriage.
That’s because a lot of young people don’t understand this thing called “money.”
It all goes back to electing right-wing candidates that support the will of people who aren’t Baby Boomers. Challenging Social Security is political suicide from the left and “conservative” Boomers. As long as Boomers continue to elect shit-ass candidates who pledge to support what amounts to ass-backwards welfare, SS is untouchable.

Might want to sit this one out, Randolph; us adults are having a grownup discussion.
*We* adults use correct pronouns.
You go fuck yourself. How was that?
Your grownup discussion digressed pretty quickly, huh?
No, I just hate people like you, who do what you just did. Uncalled for and irrelevant to the discussion. I also don’t believe a minor grammatical error should negate an entire statement. Good day.
Do you seriously not see the irony in chastising someone for immaturity then immediately throwing a tantrum when someone corrects your grammar?
Ya ya ya, fuck ups to me. Well-deserved.
Fights in the PGP comments. PGP.
Based on the number of up-votes, it was most certainly called for on a humor site. You’ve undermined your credibility far more on your own by getting all butt hurt than the comment could have ever dreamed of originally. I’ve seen Chris Brown conduct himself better in a “grownup” discussion by throwing a chair out a window.
Maybe you need to sit this one out
Been saying this since I was 15. It’s time the elderly die off or adapt because they’re tanking our economy with their anti-gay rhetoric.
Being Jewish, I’d assume you wouldn’t be so gung-ho about a group of people being removed from existence. And how does anti-gay rhetoric tank economies?
It derails the legitimate conversations we should be having about the economy and pushes socially liberal people away from voting conservative.
People group the Tea Party and Libertarian Party with the true Republican Party. They have their differences and are not ‘the same’ per se. Rhys where problems arise.
Also, I’ve read other articles that conflict the title of this about losing support of the younger voters. To each their own as to what they choose to educate themselves with.
All in all though, I don’t disagree with Mark’s interview.
The Libertarian Party has a sliver of credibility, where the Tea Party does not.
I’m just saying the three are often assume to be one in the same. The host even caught himself doing the exact same thing…
That’s because the Tea Party has been laughed out of the political world (rightfully so, I might add), so they need somewhere to hide from the spotlight.
Unfortunately for the Libertarian movement, the Tea Party short bus has stopped with them.
The Tea Party has been ran into the ground by media and their true stances are not understood.
That’s where*
That sounded like a very Libertarian way of thinking to me, which is awesome. Republicans would kill it if they let go of social issues, because hopefully the Democrats would then throw the GOP a bone for something conservatives want.
When it comes to the people in charge of saving our economy or national defense I really don’t care if I disagree with a guy on gay marriage or abortion.
In my opinion I think alot of younger people these days didnt get the great first impression of the GOP to begin with, those born in the late 80’s, early 90’s were too young to understand that the 90’s were a great time economically and as they got older and started noticing the world around them in the Bush administration during the recession, post 9/11, Iraq War, it just left the wow, these old guys are all assholes, fuck them.
