The Golden Globes are the best. People are boozing, it incorporates both television and film, and it’s not as prim and proper as The Academy Awards.
Here’s a little TL;DR for you: DiCaprio is up for Best Actor (Drama), Schumer is up for Best Actress (Comedy), and Trainwreck is up for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical). Meanwhile, on the television side of things, Empire, Game of Thrones, and Narcos are all up for Best Series (Drama) while OITNB, Silicon Valley, and Veep are all up on the comedy side. Aziz is also up for best performance for Master of None to keep everyone our age happy.
Oh, and Netflix lead all networks (mediums?) with nominations, edging out HBO, because television as we know it is dying a slow death. But here’s the full list of nominees:

Amy tries way too hard to prove she’s “like a dude” and seems to force it. Aziz used to be funny but I feel like he’s been recycling the same jokes and topics (dating) for years now and I’ve grown tired of it. I’m a cynic. Bring the hate.
Hot take: the acting in Master of None sucks across the board.
I would love to be able to argue otherwise, but there was some pretty piss poor acting throughout that series. I still really enjoyed it, and thought it really got a lot of what is said about late 20’s/early 30’s right. My only beef with these nominations is that Show Me a Hero didn’t get a nom for best miniseries.

Kind of off topic, but preferences as to Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu? Never had any of them before.
Look into Netflix and Amazon Prime. Should come out to about $20/month, but have just about all you need.
