Just got married three weeks ago and agree on all these especially short ceremony and no kids. Ceremony was a quick 15 minutes, my Catholic parents were not happy but hey they didn’t pay for it and literally everyone else appreciated it. I’m not sure if its a Midwest thing but every wedding I’ve been to has speeches at the reception. We did speeches you just kept them to 3-5 minutes a piece and only Maid of Honor/Best man give them (besides the bride’s dad, of course). Open bar is a no brainer if you can’t afford an open bar don’t have a reception until you can afford it. Our reception place had a no shots policy but our bridal party found ways around it v proud of them for that.
