I went to a liberal arts school and am now working in finance and doing well. I’m not shitting on the column because I’m bitterly sitting in a cube hating my life. I’m shitting on this column because I get really tired of hearing people that majored in BS like English, art history, music, theater, history, what have you and then complain like no other when they can’t find a job that pays enough to adequately support themselves in a field related to their major and act surprised when that happens.
This is fucking stupid. First off you’re a ’13 grad and haven’t done shit in the real world. The reality of the matter is that there are bills to pay, loans to pay off and money that needs to be made to cover that. Sure, you can follow your passions and major in art history hoping to get that super sweet job in whatever the hell art history majors actually want to do. A few may be successful, but the majority will not. I know plenty of English majors, art history majors, music majors, etc. that are following their passion just to be slapped in the face with the long dick of reality that they aren’t making any money and can barely make ends meet. They might be doing something they truly enjoy, but they’ll never stop complaining about the people that “settled” getting paid more than they do something less “meaningful.” Follow your passions for music, art, whatever all you want, but don’t come whining with your tail below your legs when you you suddenly become aware of the mountain of debt, bills and other obligations staring you in the face.
Your first problem is working in an office with a Rolanda.

Helpful Hint: When buying an expensive piece of jewelry, have it shipped out of state by the jeweler to avoid state sales tax.

As an I-banker I was not tested, but we are the outlier.
As someone who is still drunk from last night, this really hits home

One of the people in my old apartment building actually did throw himself off the top of a parking garage. Saw the body bad and all. So there’s that
Fair, 12 hours is a long day. I’ve just been getting beaten down with 16-18 hour days recently so I’m extra bitter
I hope you’ve done your stint in IB and are now on the buy side, because 6 or 7 is not “working so much”
Not as bad as you think. Your body adapts to being fully functional on ~5 hours of sleep a night
