Yea this one hurts, kinda feels like the last episode of The Office. RIP TFM and PGP, you will be missed and I hope the sites stay up so I can scroll through old stuff in the future when I need a smile and remember the good old days.
I found TFM around what I would like to think of it’s peak (2012ish) and took it for what it was, as lampoonish view that was easy to relate too and a great way to laugh at yourself while feeling a sense of community. Once I transitioned to this site I thought they did an awesome job taking it up a notch to feel more professional, while still keeping the “can’t take yourself too seriously vibe”. I still used to checkout TFM every few weeks just to reminisce but once Bacon and those guys got gone it made me sad to see it completely fall off a cliff and I literally never go back to it, now the same thing could very well happen here.
Noise guy: I use to live on the top floor of a typical newish apartment building with a roommate. The first year there, two guys lived below us and they never had a problem with noise, then they move out and a mid thirties couple moves in and they proceed to call security on us 6 times over the next month about noise levels. Once we did have people over (only 6 people so nothing crazy and it was 10 pm on a Friday so not super late either) but the other five were just normal weekday nights where I was doing nothing other than typical stuff like cooking dinner, watching tv, etc. It really made my roomate and I resent them and caused a lot of hassle with our property manager having to have meetings with us. We told her that if our neighbors are that sensitive then they should not have lived on the middle floor and calling security every Tuesday while I’m watching TV is not going to make me sympathize with you. We finally just moved when our lease ended after about three months.
TL;DR: don’t call security on them multiple times for typical noises or they will get annoyed.
To the girl who hates her job- I had a terrible manager before (not your level but still pretty bad) and was working 65 to 75 hours a week some weeks, while being miserable thinking about going back to work while at home. I finally got to the point where I couldn’t take it anymore so I quit and grabbed a job working at a hotel working the front desk to hold me over while I found something more permanent. It ended up being an enjoyable job for me while I figured out what I wanted my next move to be and with the travel perks that come with working at a hotel, I even got to go places for cheap as mini low budget vacations to clear my head as well. So quit and find a part time job that you find enjoyable (or has perks) to keep the bills paid and clear your head while you figure out your next move and go from there.
Having an outdoor TV at home (or a friends home) to watch the games outside in the fall, with your own beer and party foods, than is 10X better going to a sports bar. Bonus points if you have a fire of some sort going as well.
I usually only drink beer/liquor on the weekends too and unless there is a special occasion. I still to either not drinking during the week or only having one glass of wine. Moderation is the key, not “cleanses” or “detoxes” those are just spiffy buzzwords.
I live near my alma mater (here’s to going to school in a desirable city with post grad jobs) and more game weekends than not I have a buddy staying with me. It lets you spend more time with people, which is the real reason most people go to the games, and I don’t mind it at all so it does depend on the irritability of your host. I have rented an awesome AirBnB near Boone before though so get a group and do that if it make you feel better. Congrats on the good football season so far btw.
My roommate still doesn’t get the dishwasher thing and even though he ends up loading and unloading it more often than me (he’s a kitchen counter neat freak) I end up rewashing half of what he puts up so we both end up feeling slighted by the other. Good times
I made an account literally to say it warms my heart that NC BBQ is getting so much attention in the comments. But yea, The Pit is good but it’s for tourists. If you want authentic BBQ in Durham (Don’t drive to Skylight or Parker’s in a hurricane, but otherwise I would recommend) go to Hog Heaven. My Dad grew up in Durham and it’s his go to.

yea…maybe
I’d rather celebrate buying a house or a big work milestone rather than a birthday where the only criteria is just existing another year.
P.S. Would

Personally, quail appetizers with duck for dinner sounds great.
