Talk to a local recruiter/head hunter and see what your options are. There is also a feature on linked in to make your profile appear in search results when hiring managers do searches. It also keeps your profile out of the search results when someone at your company does a hiring search. I’ve gotten a few decent prospects and one I’m currently pursuing out of the linked in thing (among many shit ones).

I agree with being a responsible dog owner. I travel a lot for work and can’t properly car for and train a dog. And I can’t manage to find a nice young lady that has a dog so I can pretend I have one. So I’m forced to be the favorite of all the dogs in my building because I give them more than a head pat in passing. Full on body rubs and belly pats (for the dogs) from the guy in #2.

Great article as always Madoff. Given what is going on with our beloved PGP community, I found the article very timely to remind us that a chapter forcibly closing isn’t always a bad thing. A closing chapter means another one is beginning and means we are continuing on our journey

  • Government Slacker 6 years ago on An Introduction To Credit Cards

Good write up. Especially the tone of the column that credit cards aren’t evil. I think it would be good to mention that if you have multiple cards that aren’t in regular rotation, its good to throw a recurring monthly charge on the cards you don’t regularly use. Like a Netflix subscription or some other subscription like that and set it to autodraft. This keeps the card in active status and you wont run the risk of it being cancelled due to inactivity. Plus, its more check marks in the “paid on time” column, which never hurts.

I wouldn’t say banking is the most regulated industry, but its top 3 most regulated. But online banking and peer-to-peer payment systems will become the norm once older generations die. Community banks are starting to seriously evaluate their futures in the banking industry with the rise in popularity with online banking and mobile banking.

    1. When the dinner check comes, just drop down a card and cover it all. If she is a decent human being she will offer to pay her share or cover a few rounds after. You will get brownie points from the BFF and she will be in your GF’s ear about how great of a guy you are. If she’s the type of BFF that your GF tells everything to, her opinion of you can make or break the relationship in the long run.

    2. Your Dad isn’t going to like any plan you have of co-habitating that doesn’t involve you getting married first. But I would still talk to him about it. It does make logistical and financial sense. But you know him better than any of us do. If this would cause a long-term riff in your relationship with him, I would just hold off until after getting married.

    3. Tapas and small plate places are overrated. If I’m paying tapas prices, I better be full. Underrated are hibachi places and good, simple mom-and-pop places.

    4. Pay off debt, put some back for emergency, fund IRA, talk to a legit financial advisor. Don’t be afraid to pay for a consultation and you don’t have to go with the first person you meet with.

    5. I got an insta when I was moving for my first job at 24. First post was about me moving out of my hometown. Just follow whoever you want to and they will probably follow back if they know you. Be sure to put up a profile pic that is clearly you if your handle will be different from your first and last name so that these people know it you and not some spam account or something.

Dave Ramsey is good for people trying to get out of debt. He’s not very applicable to people looking to invest excess cash. Dave’s approach is all about getting to where you pay cash for everything, even the big purchases like cars and houses. His idea of financial freedom is not having to worry about a credit score. Which might have been easier to do years ago, and him now since he’s a millionaire. But now, a lot of interactions involve checking your credit score. Landlords and companies considering hiring you will check the credit score these days. Debt isn’t this boogy-man we should avoid at all costs. Consumer debt and debt not backed by appreciable assets should be minimize or avoided, yes. But buying a house with a mortgage you can afford? Taking the no interest financing for 12 months on a mattress or something you will use for years(provided you have the cash to pay it off)? Not the end of the world.

  • Government Slacker 6 years ago on An Unbiased Breakdown Of The Top Comments From John Duda’s Controversial ‘NCIS Blog’

Part of me thinks it had to have been shared by the #1 NCIS fan forum administrator that has a Google alert set up for anything on the internet with NCIS in the title. So they sent out their NCIS shooters. The other part of me thinks that there was someone or a couple of people that coordinate their efforts to troll NCIS articles because its the internet.
