I caved and watched all 4 episodes last night. I had nothing else to do but laundry, and that was churning while I watched. Admittedly, it’s not as much of a spoiler for me because I’ve read the books, but I couldn’t help myself. They were great. I’ll just rewatch them to pass the time until the next “unreleased” one comes out.
Not really. You want internet and/or cable? Most cities only offer one or two options in your area. Fuck even the Cato Institute thought it would be fucked up 30 years ago.
Has Cuban or the writer even looked into the regulating ISPs as public utilities? It has a lot of merit.
What has more merit is that through the 1996 TCA the telecoms got $200 billion in tax credits to rewire the entire country, lay fiber, and offer sweet, sweet high speed internet, video calling, and other stuff. They, instead, pocketed the cash because the law had zero punitive measures for not implementing them while accepting the money. Then they pcoketed the money, gradually bought each other out, signed into municipal monopolies, and phased out infrastructure improvements, charged more for worse service, and hosed the customers.
I’m not a huge gov’t intervention guy myself, but telco companies are absolutely overdue to have internet regulated as a public utility. It’s a ubquitious as telephones were fifty years ago, if not more so, and the laws regulating it are almost uniformly out of date or just bad at every level of government.
“We’re also a generation that loves to tell old people (yuck! Right, guys?) why we won’t conform and why we make the rules up in this bitch. ”
Welcome to every younger generation ever in the history of humanity. I fucking *hate* wearing suits to work, but I rarely have to do it. Wearing a suit for a suit’s sake is idiotic. Wear one if you want to or if it’s required. Don’t need to go much deeper than that.
Always glad to see people like that called out. Do they really not think that any of the millions of recent veterans wouldn’t do that?
The actual veteran should be careful though. Unless the guy is pretending to be a vet to get something, it’s not actually illegal, just one of the most assholish things you can do.
Definitely gonna agree with LoadLetter here. Plenty of tech companies, especially relatively new ones and start ups, have not built out their back office at all. They need accountants to balance the books, financial analysts to project revenue and make a budget, and marketing people to help you sell the product*.
I can’t necessarily speak for the SE, but there are definitely positions open for finance guys in the Midwest and East coast.
* HR is technically back office, but no one likes them and most companies would do fine without them.
It sounds more like you walked into Ikea and walked out than actually spent any time there.
Poortip: Rice, beans, and raw veggies do not cost very much. Those with a bit of protein and you can easily skate under $30 a week on an “okay” diet.
Course it’s supplemental, not “the entirety of your food budget”
“This is the worst thing that you could come up with on a golf course?”

In a perfect market, you’d be right. It’s not even close to a perfect market. It’s by and large sweetheart deals and cronyism.

There I saved you 45 minutes in writing a column

To be fair, guys do the same thing with nude pics.
Karen is the worst.
I put my wallet in my coat or messenger bag while I’m working. No reason to sit on that shit.
How the fuck did Comcast not get bottom 5?
So, uh, how long does that hobo stew cook for? Just asking for a friend.
6-8 hours? I feel like someone putting hot dogs and spaghettios in a crockpot is going to want to eat soon. Cause I’ll prolly be drinking

I hate it when people ask me if I’m going to pop a few babies out. I’m not Arnold in Junior. It’s physically impossible for me to give birth.

I hate wearing ties to work. That is one of the *many* reasons I got into IT. The pay, working arrangements, and dress code definitely did not hurt.
I guess I must have slipped through the cracks. I do always give a fake name ’cause I like to stay off the grid. You know what I mean?
