Somehow I got put in charge of scheduling the office happy hours and I am so jealous of the people who decline. Thanks for the inspiration, I’m going to pass the torch to the new person in the office.
I was thinking something extremely similar in the shower this morning, I’m almost in the same boat. How do you get the message across what kind of ring you want or, more importantly, the kind of ring you don’t want? Tell my sister and BFF so that he can ask them?
Yeah, It’s not good. I’m already annoyed my alarm is going off in the first place. If I snooze it, I’ll just get annoyed multiple times. Then I’ll get up, still tired, and even more annoyed that before. I’m getting annoyed just thinking about having to wake up again tomorrow.
I used to plan vacations around doing things in Denver/mountains. Now I do them on a Tuesday night and don’t have to take any PTO because I live here and it’s the best. If you take the dive, I’m happy to help!
Big fan of this article. I was never able to explain the feeling of just doing something to get it over with to avoid hurting someone’s feelings or just going along with an incredibly uncomfortable conversation so I don’t embarrass the other person. Confrontation makes me feel out of control (maybe I should unleash the beast), so I avoid it when I can, even if it means putting up with things that make me feel like shit. Even just typing that out, it sounds ridiculous! The work around that I made up in my head is that I’m actually hurting them by not saying anything. These are super out of touch people who should really be told that what they are saying/doing is making people uncomfortable. Who knows if they will continue that behavior down the road, but at least they know not to do it around you.
To the last dude, you gotta switch to mornings and a pre-workout is necessary (coffee works too, but I like to save my coffee for later in the day). A former C4 user, I quit because it is terrible. I started taking an equally, if not more, effective pre-workout called PureWOD (just google it). It’s all natural and doesn’t make you jittery. It tastes … it does not taste good. But once I choke it down on the way to the gym, I quickly forget it’s 5am and there is no crash. I am not affiliated with them in any way, I am just super excited to have finally found a pre workout that doesn’t blow. Good luck switching to mornings!
Since I don’t know a thing about your company, like it’s size or hiring procedures, take this with a grain of salt. This is all just what has worked for me and my personal experience. Do you know anyone on the new team you want to join? Enough to just ask them to grab a coffee with them or something. Maybe someone you want to work under, or even next to (not trying to make this dirty). You could express your interest, compliment them (a little genuine flattery never hurts), and if they are a decent human, they will give you some guidance. Depending on your relationship with your current manager, you can also ask them. If neither of these options seem realistic for you, I would suggest seeking out anyone at your company you trust and feel comfortable being honest around and explaining your situation.
To get where I am right now, I had met with the manager of the team I wanted to be on for coffee and ‘career advice’ a couple of times before the job on her team opened up. She was extremely helpful and a great mentor. They didn’t even post it and offered me the job, which I was stoked about. Building that relationship was huge.

Can confirm, this has worked out well for me. Take charge, you’re the only one who’s looking out for you.
I need to know how long that took.
That cake looks delicious.
One shot of gin is not enough.
Stock photo keeps making me hungry every time I go to the home page. I NEED samoas right now.

That’s what I was thinking! Once it slipped out (the words, not … well… you know) and it felt super cheesy and we laughed.
This makes sense to me.

EWW
This works like a charm.
Exactly. He couldn’t figure out how it was creepy. Needless to say I told him to go away forever and it worked… so far…
I had a guy submarine me (am I using that correctly?) by sending me a picture he took of the building I work in with no words.
PASSED. Time to drink 2 glasses of wine and be hungover tomorrow.
