My ex broke up with me last year and used the “I just don’t want a relationship right now” excuse, after 5 months of us being exclusive. I called him out and asked him if he didn’t want a relationship, or if he didn’t want a relationship with ME. He said he didn’t want one with me. It’s extremely hard to be told you’re not enough for someone you care about, but now that I’ve had time to get over it, I know I’m better off and I’m glad he didn’t drag it out any longer than he already had. On to the next one!
The Super Bowl is my second favorite holiday of the year. Can’t wait to pound beers, eat my buffalo chicken dip that always gets rave reviews, make fun of dumb commercials, and hope the Pats lose.
Today I am giving my two weeks notice to my boss because I am moving to Colombia to teach English for a year. Everyone pray for my boss, as losing an excellent closer such as myself will no doubt be a crushing blow to him.
I lost my best friend in a car accident when we were only 21, long before most people I knew had lost a loved one. Going through that grief at such a young age, when none of my peers could relate to me, was so tough. I can’t even imagine what it must be like to lose a parent in your 20s. I will say that losing my best friend so young has motivated me to do more with my life and not waste the short time we have on this earth. I’ve moved around since then and am moving to Colombia in March to teach English and hopefully travel more afterwards. The silver lining of loss is the sharp realization you should live your life to the fullest.
How does that contradict the article? The entire point of that was to say that even if thoughts like that have crossed your mind, you can still just be friends with someone. Just because I’ve thought about what it would be like doesn’t mean I want to actually do it, and vice versa for my guy friends.
Or people could just teach their sons not to harm women, ever. It’s not just psychopaths like Rodgers that hurt women–women are hurt and abused by men they know much more often than men they don’t know. We should be teaching against violence, rather than having everyone resort to it.
Thank you so much for writing this. So many men had the same initial reaction as you did, which was to get defensive and say ‘But I’m not that guy!’, but they didn’t take the time to really think about the message women were/are trying to send. This quote from a Slate article on the subject really stuck out to me, and I think is something every guy should read:
“When a woman is walking down the street, or on a blind date, or, yes, in an elevator alone, she doesn’t know which group you’re in. You might be the potential best guy ever in the history of history, but there’s no way for her to know that. A fraction of men out there are most definitely not in that group. Which are you? Inside your head you know, but outside your head it’s impossible to. This is the reality women deal with all the time.”

Maybe I have low standards, but I think he’s super cute. He could get it.
I needed this today. Thank you.
Consider me turned on.
I am a non-sexual entity in their eyes, like a sister, or a lamp.

The only other option was “feel as dead inside as Harambe” but I got too teary-eyed.
