By every metric, 2017 was a massive year for the website. The editorial content has successfully gone in directions that I never imagined possible. Our podcast, Touching Base, continues to have the most engaged fanbase in our network. Hell, Dillon’s doing a mailbag for the site. How big is that? DORN is on PGP now (bring back the forums). You know this one already, but our remote team is churning out top-shelf ‘tent on a daily basis. Duda and McGannon are back in the mix too. Two content beasts back throwing their weight around. You love to see that. And our most successful video was created by fucking J-Bone. I never imagined a scenario where I’d be typing those words.
Sure, we had the Sup? moment of 2017, but I think we all grew stronger because of it.
But I’m not flexing. The purpose of this isn’t to validate our strategy. I want real feedback. A major reason we’ve been able to create a community around *cringes* millennial content is because we engage with our readers. We aren’t only crunching numbers in Google Analytics. Engagement means something to us. I’d trade a column that gets 20,000 page views in an afternoon for a statistical dud that compels 5 people create user accounts and comment on the site. Everybody loves a dialogue.
So with our feet firmly planted at the starting line in the opening stage of the tour de Q1, I’d like to open the comments up for some reader feedback. Hey, let’s get some listener feedback in there as well. I’ve got time today. Tell us what you like. Tell us what you hated. Who do you want more of? Be honest, but don’t be a dick. Tell us what we can do to keep earning your business. The comment section is your white board.
Please respect the white board..
I’ll start. Nick Arcadia. I need more Nick Arcadia.
If I ever beat this NYE hangover you got it, boss.
HUMPDAY HOOKUP HORROR STORIES.
trademark that shit
I encourage you to use the search function and go back to read some of the classic stories our original hero, Brian McGannon, put together back in the day.
Push notifications when someone replies to a comment would be nice.
Dave and Team – Whoever is responsible for the mobile app, you can integrate a push/in-app analytics platform like Localytics, Braze (AppBoy), Urban Airship, or build it in house but that’s costly. These platforms charge based on “a la cart” saas services that aren’t included out of the box and your app’s MAU size. To get cross channel data flowing seamlessly, you can stack mPRticles platform and link it to a push provider and Google Analytics/your website/app. If you have any questions, you know where to find me and so on and so forth and whatnot and stuff
Would anyone be opposed if I took a stab at writing a series named “Let’s Rant And Get To The Bottom Of Stuff: {Insert Topic}”
Would prefer, “(Topic Goes Here), lol.”
i feel like its more on brand
I like this proposal way better
*billy madison gif about making no sense and awarding you zero points for making everyone in the thread dumber*
I agree with Michael Scarn 100%
Sorry guys, I do this for a living, whatever the fuck this is. I don’t even know lol
Obvious synergies between Duda and CallMeVictoria pair those two up for a dating column where they offer alternate solutions to dating problems
CMV: Really plan out the date so it seems like you’re just winging it the whole time. Meet up at the local favorite for a few drinks, then suggest stopping by the taco hole in the wall followed up by the new Belgian beer spot. Finally, tell her you have a party to throw in a few weeks and need help making a new cocktail. You’ll have her eating out of your hand.
Duda: Get an air mattress.
For real, CMV and Duda have the hottest dating takes from both gender perspectives. Love both of their individual writing. Would love to get more strong content from female writers like CMV and Rachel; the girls here do great stuff but I feel like the male voices here still dominate in sheer volume of content
Here is my list, in real order:
1. More content directed at engaging the community. I love the content here but what I really love is just hanging out and talking in the comment section. Things like”This weekend in fun”, “What’s for dinner” and “Morning coffee thoughts”; gave us the option to really talk about part of our lives.
2. Fix the app, I know you guys outsourced this but I would love to be able to comment in the app again.
3. Anything you can do to help people organize meetups. Like I said I love the community here it’s what keeps me coming back. Anything you guys can to turn online interaction to ones IRL would help.
4. Keep doing what you are doing. This site is awesome.
Would love at least a Monday morning coffee thoughts. I get it would be a lot of work to put one out every day like Ross used to do, but would be nice.
Can you still not comment in the app anymore? Started randomly working again for me a couple of weeks ago
I can not, but I’m also on Android so that may be part of the problem.
I’m on an iPhone and haven’t had any issues commentating using the app in a long time
Please this. I use the app on my phone a majority of the time. PGP is blocked at work so it’s not an option. Also all I ask is for the app on the iPad to be able to shift to landscape.
Yes! Please the app. Is nothing ever submitted to the photo wall or is it not updated in the app? I’ve submitted a few things there and it’s like it just disappears into an abyss never to be seen or heard form again. Then I go to look at the wall and it’s the same Miata picture from months ago with nothing new
First of all I’d like to start by saying that, that Nived guy is a cucking loser and his comments are flaming liquid garbage. Also, I’m curious to see if there is an incremental lift in content views on articles where that asshole has commented vs ones he hasn’t. Is there Lifetime value? I doubt it though because he sucks lol
We need articles by this guy
Could you be more into yourself?
I mean, I could have not just shit all over myself in the above comment
Probably should have control alt deleted before leaving that comment.
Just series in general. Seems like Duda has a couple good ones in the works. CMV is a great writer. Bacon’s original Frat Romance was one of the things that got me started on you guys.
Agreed, I always feel like you guys under value your fiction. That some of my favorite content on any grandex site.
This was my one suggestion as well. I love this site, nothing makes my day go by faster. But I want to see more TGDAG-type series, preferrably one written by CMV! Also, a mailbag from a female perspective would be cool, not that Dillon isn’t doing a great job. I think it would just prompt different questions.
Would it be possible to get more content tailored to late 20 somethings/early 30 somethings? I’ve been on this site for almost 4(!) years and although I still feel like I just graduated college, I’m closer to 30 than 21. Would love to read articles about some of things we encounter as we get somewhat farther away from college and into real adulthood (tips for those in long term relationships, how to take the next financial steps e.g. buying a home or a new car, etc.).
I’m with you. Along those lines, it was refreshing to see Bandujo’s article about fatherhood.
I’m actually very curious about the age demographic breakdowns. I’ve been reading the site since 2013, and as has been mentioned in the past, it’s seemed to grow up along with us. Although more articles for the late 20s early 30s crowd is always appreciated.
Just want to throw extra support behind this. PGP itself is already a continuation for those of us who have aged out of TFM, and continuing along a “typical milleniel’s” life experience is the number one key for this being something I continue to love as much as I do. Those next level challenges (finance, kids, marriage) are things I would love to see discussed by the staff personalities here.
I agree. More real “problems” we face in life. I don’t expect you to ask your writers to dive into their personal lives but some of the more serious subjects (seeing a therapist, being a grown child of divorce, etc.) allow us to connect and support in ways we couldn’t before.
Absolutely and I’m glad my sentiment is echoed.
On that note, I know that everyone here has a boner (figuratively and maybe literally) for CMV, but I’ve actually myself being able to identify the most with Rachel Varina’s pieces.
I’ve actually found myself*
Dammit, PGP, it’s 2018. Get some sort of edit button policy in place!
What about a whole new site? Post post grad problems where you talk about getting fat and all the bud lights in your fridge mysteriously turning into La Croix.
YES. Love this site and have been reading for a while, but I just turned 30 and sometimes feel like I’m too old. More content for those of us dealing with career issues, marriage, kids, finances would be awesome. I enjoy a good early 20s blackout tale as much as the next person, but don’t want to feel like the oldest kid here.
As a 31 year old (gross) reader of this site I totally agree. I know you bring in new, younger writers often, but I feel like it would be an opportunity for some of the sites more tenured readers favorites (Brian and Dave imo) to bang out even more hilarious and/or heartfelt content. A long time ago I submitted to McGannons mailbag that the late 20’s-early 30’s is an underserved demo in content at large. Still feels that way.
More from that Madoff guy. I hear he’s totally cool.
Can confirm.
Bring back the photos. Also keep up the good work with publishing articles from folks that started out as commenters (Nived, Josh.T, Frogon etc.) One of my favorite things about this site is how the writers engage with/are active in the comment sections.
You’re my favorite postgrad aquatic mammal. Love all you guys who comment to help me and the other writers churn out content you want to see.
I really appreciate the support. Now I have to sit down and write a column since it’s been awhile. I really do love this place and the people
I really enjoy the mailbag. It’s interesting to see what’s going on for everyone and the (usually) good comments from readers.
to go off of this – mailbag is great, but not when the majority of entries are from Undergrads. Would like to see undergrad entries limited to TFM/TSM
