Apparently, your parents were wrong: Money CAN, in fact, buy Happiness. Just ask Dan Bilzerian.
Not only can money buy happiness, but a recent analysis by Doug Short, the vice president of research at investment group Advisor Perspectives, actually puts a value on how much money you need to be happy, depending on which state in the US you call home.
The darker the green on the state, the more, well, Green you need to be happy.
No shock that New York and California are the darkest shades of green and in the top bracket, but surprisingly, California isn’t even in the top 5 of states you need to be happy. New York isn’t #1 either, it’s #3. Who’s #1? The 50th state: Hawai’i. According to this chart, you need to make about $122,175 in order to be happy.
Hmm, so you need to make about $99,150 in order to be happy in New York? I make less than half of that and I’m miserable. That sounds about right. PGP.

Damnit California, I’ve had enough of your shit.
Looks like I don’t make enough money to be happy in any of the 50 states. PGP.
Good to know how much of a raise I need to leave Iowa and still be happy.
Living in a town that borders Yellowstone right now up in Wyoming…. If you’re an outdoorsmen and don’t give a shit about making 200k this state is pretty tits.
Time to move to a country with ridiculous exchange rate….obligatory “thanks a lot Obama!”
You could be miserable with that amount of money because you’re Jewish.
Laughably low for Tennessee. I guarantee my happiness will increase with every $50,000 added to my paycheck.
