Happy Monday, everyone! As I head into week two of my new gig, things are looking good. I spent my first weekend at home in a while, and I’m feeling organized and confident… a feeling that should last until 10:03 am when I start to feel completely overwhelmed and unqualified. But I’ll bask in the feeling temporarily until then, which means that I probably had a better weekend than these people.
The Passengers on Air France 66
As I noted in last week’s column, I am now firmly convinced Air France is the worst airline ever, and after an incident this weekend, there may be a few hundred people who agree with me.
On a flight from Paris to Los Angeles on Sunday, one of the four engines on the Airbus A380 blew up over the Atlantic, leading to an emergency landing in Goose Bay Airport on the eastern tip of Canada.
One of the passengers tweeted a pic of the engine after the landing:
Now, shit happens and thank God the plane landed safely and no one was hurt. But this situation quickly dissolved into an unnecessary clusterfuck. According to other tweets from Mr. McNeely, passengers were kept on the plane for 23 hours before they were deplaned and redirected to their destinations via other planes brought into the small airport by Air France. However, the biggest complaint seemed to be the lack of communication from the Air France crew; McNeely seemed to be getting most of the information regarding the situation as he was sitting on the plane from folks on Twitter.
That feels familiar.
Sex And The City Fans
As a big devotee of Sex And The City, my opinion on the movies was that the first one was great and the second one was crap. When rumors started circulating about a third installment, I was torn: Would it be worse than the sequel or would the third time be the charm? Well, now it looks like I won’t find out.
During an interview with Extra on her way into New York City Ballet Gala on Thursday, Sarah Jessica Parker crushed SATC fans’ hopes, saying, “It’s over. We’re not doing it.” Parker went on to say:
We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.
Maybe the ladies can reunite for a limited run series on HBO or Netflix? That craptastic sequel just can’t be how it ends. [Via CNN]
Antonio Brown
After losing last week to the Bears, of all people, you would have thought that the Steelers may have come into their game against the Ravens on Sunday with all guns firing. But if you’re Antonio Brown, you’re pissed they weren’t firing at you (metaphorically speaking, of course).
In the second half of Sunday’s game, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw a missed catch to a decently covered Le’Veon Bell instead of going downfield to a completely open Brown. Brown decided to the thing to do to address the issue would be to throw an absolute shitfit on the sideline, tossing a Gatorade bucket and screaming at offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Well, that’s sure to build morale. [Via The Big Lead]
Dennis Schroder
A few weeks ago, I gently mocked Mario Lopez for getting into an altercation at a Las Vegas spa. While a spa may seem like kind of a wussy place to get into a fight, Lopez is a TV star so it isn’t exactly totally out of the realm of possibility that the dude may get a facial now and again, right?
Now let’s say you’re an NBA player — where is the least likely place you’d get arrested? Next on the list after a nail salon and a Babies-R-Us may be a hookah bar. I mean, you’d think you’d be pretty chill after spending a few hours hitting the tobacco pipe. That apparently wasn’t the case for Atlanta guard Dennis Schroder this weekend, however.
Schroder was arrested early Friday morning at a hookah bar in Brookhaven, Georgia after he and a group of friends allegedly struck “the victim with their hands and feet” after Schroder shoved him. The incident was caught on tape by security cameras, which clearly showed that Schroder was the instigator.
The Hawks released a statement, saying “We are aware of an incident involving Dennis Schroder earlier this morning. We are still gathering information as it pertains to the situation, and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time.” ESPN also noted that “NBA players are subject to fines and suspensions under the personal conduct policy in their contracts.”
Maybe Schroder should just stay home the next time he wants to smoke up? [Via ESPN]
Icehouse’s Friend
My bud and fellow PGP writer, Icehouse, shared an insane tweet yesterday and I’m pretty sure we all had a better weekend than his friend. Click here if you have no qualms about disgusting images and severed fingers.
Good luck getting that image out of your head..

I’d still rather fly Air France than Malaysian Air.
Ordered my first Ranch Water over the weekend at dinner. Felt empowering when I had to tell the bartender what it is.
Was it everything you hoped and dreamed?
Dude I’m obsessed with ranch waters after I found out what they are. But I had to make them at home because no one knows how to make them here.
Didn’t have Topo-Chico water, but was pretty close.
I went to the Texans game decked out in my Titans gear yesterday…
Sending up sincere love and prayers to all of those impacted by the tragedy in Las Vegas. Thankful for the police and first responders who took on the ultimate evil.
Sending good vibes to all today.
Vegas?????? Or is that too political?
Probably best not to trivialize what happened.
That’s fair with me.
I think it’d be enough of a joke but also respectful enough to say I can think of a couple hundred people who had a worse weekend than me.
My parents were both at the concert. Dad’s phone was dead and mom lost hers in the chaos, so I had the longest and most stressful few hours of my life until they finally could contact me. If I’m still feeling so terrible and shaken up despite them being safe, I can’t imagine what the families of the victims are going through. A lot of people could definitely use some prayers and positive thoughts today, and I’m going home this weekend to hold my parents and thank god they’re still here.
So glad to hear your loved ones are safe
So glad to hear they are safe.
This was written before the incident. I certainly wouldn’t have included it, but definitely would have offered thoughts and prayers. It’s tragic.
“…you would have thought that the Steelers may have come into their game against the Ravens on Sunday with all guns firing. But if you’re Antonio Brown, you’re pissed they weren’t firing at you (metaphorically speaking, of course).”
Unfortunate timing with this paragraph.
Reading these and knowing my weekend was far worse is giving me a rate case of the Tuesday scaries. (Story omitted due to the repercussions of an ex gf who is a weekly reader)
