So guys I don’t know if you’ve heard, but “businessman” Donald Trump is running for President. I also don’t know if you’ve heard, but the Harry Potter books are very famous and carry a massive fan-base (myself included). How are these two sentences connected you might ask?
According to a new study, reading Harry Potter actually increases dislike for Donald Trump.
From CBS:
The study, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Donald”–a nod to the title of the seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was conducted by a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. It surveyed 1,142 Americans both in 2014 and 2016 to ask about their Harry Potter reading habits and opinions on various political issues, including their feelings on Trump.
Side-note: Harry Potter and the Deathly Donald would be the best comeback novel for J.K. Rowling.
Respondents were asked to rate their feelings for Trump on a 0-100 scale–and found that for each one of the seven “Harry Potter” books that person had read, their evaluation of Trump dropped by approximately 2 or 3 points.
Now one may think that simply being able to read would dissuade one from voting for Trump, but apparently reading Harry Potter takes that to an even higher level.
As a rabid HP fan I’d imagine this has to do with the similarities between Trump and HP’s nemesis Voldemort. Both are visually repulsive creatures seeking to alienate an entire sector of the population and both have fantastic egos and a thirst for power.
They each have a separate skill that separates them from the population. Voldemort is arguably the most powerful and feared wizard of all time The Donald was born rich, and instead of using it to become Batman and help people, he used it to become a raging asshole.
Even HP author J.K. Rowling weighed in when Trump was compared to Voldemort:
How horrible. Voldemort was nowhere near as bad. https://t.co/hFO0XmOpPH

Now Trump’s a dick, but he’s still an attempted genocide away from being near as bad as Voldemort. But, on voting day, according to this study:
“It may simply be too difficult for Harry Potter readers to ignore the similarities between Trump and the power-hungry Voldemort,”
Yeah, I can see where they’re getting that..

Voldemort puts Wizards first! Ministry of Magic is incompetent, mudbloods are coming in with NO screening, taking jobs and putting wizards at risk. Sad!
If Trump is Voldemort, then Hillary is Dolores Umbridge
Senator Feinstein is Umbridge

People who read fantasy tend to be more liberal than the average American. I’m sure the same holds true for Lord of The Rings or really any novel.
Also, I’m gonna say most people who have read Harry Potter before are 30 and under. Young people = more liberal.
Atlas Shrugged, anyone? Cuz that’s sort of a dystopian fantasy novel that I can see a lot of people having read, and then deciding to support Trump.
I’m sure being literate at all, regardless of your choice of literature, decreases affection for Trump
Both presidential candidates should be forced to play quidach in a battle to the death for the presidency from a really high vantage point and trust that God is blessing them just like he is with this country. Then when they hit the ground, America becomes a better place immediately.
I like Trump, but I’ve only seen the Harry Potter movies so I guess this is accurate
I hate Harry Potter and other fantasy bullshit, and I hate Trump ever so slightly less than I hate Hillary. So, theory proven.
You hate Harry Potter? I’m sorry you had a bad childhood. There’s professional help out there for that.
Probably hates GoT and LotR too. This is a safe space man, it’s ok to live a little.
I do. Just not a fan of fantasy. Sorry. I’m an accountant, I don’t have any imagination.
