Like, OMG, I just love Netflix. There’s nothing better than curling up on my couch with a stage-seven hangover and just bingeing shows while eating a Domino’s pizza that I ordered via sending an emoji on my cracked iPhone 7 plus. Lol, does that make me a millennial?
Okay, but in all seriousness. No matter how over-discussed Netflix actually is, it’s still in our lives in some capacity. Just like you need to have a handle on the HBO original programming if you’re trying to keep up with modern culture, Netflix has thrown their hat in the ring and have created a stable of original series that deserve attention.
Yes, everyone’s seen Stranger Things and Orange Is The New Black, but there are a lot of other shows in their lineup that aren’t whored out at every award show. Business Insider took every Netflix show and ranked them based on Metacritic’s combined critic’s rating, thus crafting a list of the shows you need to be watching (that is, if obeying critic’s is your thing).
No. 16: ‘The OA’ — 61/100
No. 15: ‘Sense8’ — 63/100
No. 14: ‘Bloodline’ — 67.5/100
No. 13: ‘The Get Down’ — 69/100
No. 12: ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ — 71.5/100
No. 11: ‘Love’ — 72/100
No. 10: ‘Easy’ — 72/100
No. 9: ‘Stranger Things’ — 76/100
No. 8: ‘Narcos’ — 76.5/100
No. 7: ‘House of Cards’ — 77/100
No. 6: ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ — 79/100
No. 5: ‘BoJack Horseman’ — 79/100
No. 4: ‘The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ — 80/100
No. 3: ‘The Crown’ — 81/100
No. 2: ‘Orange Is the New Black’ — 84.3/100
No. 1: ‘Lady Dynamite’ — 85/100
Before you lose it, the reason Black Mirror (among others) wasn’t on this list is because Netflix simply took over the rights for that show rather than creating it on its own.
If you’re okay with nudity, Love is a great way to spend random bouts of time since there isn’t an actual plot and there’s just a ton of sex. If you want to be overcome with almost-too-positive vibes, then yeah, Kimmy Schmidt is your girl. And if you feel like reading a book, The Crown is actually wildly entertaining considering the subject matter and timeframe (and it’s up for a Golden Globe for ‘Best Drama Series’ so it has to be at least okay).
Come Sunday, you’re about to be hungover for the foreseeable future so you might as well get butt deep on the couch and choose one of these to go all-in on. It’s better than re-watching Friends. .
Narcos is easily the best show on this retarded list.
Si, claro
It blows my mind that Wagner Moura didn’t speak Spanish before he was cast as Pablo.
Because I’m a giant nerd, I’m watching Amazon Prime’s “Man in the High Castle” and am really enjoying it.
Awesome show, underrated. Also Black Sails on Starz (which is why no one has heard of it), but it’s pretty great.
Never read the book, can’t stand Dick.
I gotta ask, how? Phillip K. Dick is one of my all time favorite writers. Perhaps its how many of his characters are just going through drug induced paranoia which said a lot about the man, but I always love how fucked up he views the world, it’s interesting. Flow my Tears, the Policeman Said was what got me into him though.
Haven’t read the book. For the series, I honestly probably enjoy the concept a little more than it’s execution. But it’s visually stunning and the attention to detail is there.
This list is garbage.
To be fair, most critics are garbage. Joe Dirt has 11% on Rotten Tomatoes and that movie is HILARIOUS.
“So you’re gonna tell me that you don’t have no black cats, no Roman Candles, or screaming mimis?”
Rotten Tomatoes uses a different rating system from Metacritic I believe. RT uses straight up average of all reviews.
I watched The OA over the weekend. That is a weekend I will never get back, it was a total mind fuck…..but not mind-fuck in a good way. More in the way like when you don’t know whether it was your fault or not that your dad left. So….avoid?
Not a Black Mirror mindfuck?
Uhhhh I was kind of peeved that master of none was omitted but then I checked and it’s metacritic score was 91/100, so this list is just plain inaccurate
But did the metacritic have a reputable score?
As in sources? I mean, as an aggregate, that is kind of what they do. Agragate scores from reputable sources.
Well metacritic is literally what the above list is based on
As long as you aren’t having a quarter-life crisis at the time (I had the scaries for a week after S3), Bojack is one of the 5 best shows on TV period
Personally I love sense8, really weird concept that works. Can’t wait for season 2 to drop.
Bloodline is by far the best on this list hands down.
“…might as well get butt deep on the couch…”
Congrats on the sex?
Peaky Blinders is actual gold and should be on this list
Just saw they’re not a Netflix original. I’ll take the L here.
