My boyfriend is way more conservative than I am – we’re not on total opposite ends of the spectrum, but on some issues you just have to agree to disagree. The way I handle it is that I just appreciate that he reads the news and forms educated opinions. He’s not stupid and just repeating shit that he heard on a headline. We both agree that there’s not enough middle-ground in current politics, and so we genuinely make an effort to see things from the others’ point of view. Give it a shot. Otherwise, you may just have to let it be the no-go zone. If James Carville and Mary Matalin make it work, so can you.
I agree almost all of this, but I don’t know about the bit about NBD to hang out with drug users in college. Maybe I’m just a little more vanilla (definitely am, if we’re being totally honest), but the only thing I was around in college aside from drinking was pot, and I just didn’t partake in the latter. From what I heard, there was A TON of blow and pills around, but I never saw any of it until law school. I know there are probably a lot of professions that involve drugs (mine included, for suuure), but if someone ever told me that railing a line was necessary to become partner or something, I’d tell them to go fuck themselves.
If you’re worried about your friends having a potential drug problem, don’t ever be afraid to say something to them, but don’t expect them to react how you want them to. I quit drinking (not voluntarily in the beginning) a little over two years ago, but in the months leading up to the end of my drinking career I had a lot of friends and family vocalize their concerns. My response was basically to go fuck themselves. Fast forward, I don’t drink anymore, and I love it. But, that being said, you can’t force someone to look at their habits and say, “Oh well shit, you’re totally right, thanks for looking out” – that’s something they’ll have to learn on their own.
Frankly I don’t think cocaine is recreational drug – it’s always fallen into the “hard” category for me as well, and anyone I’ve ever heard of trying it either loved it and kept on with it or did it once and never again because they loved it so much. It may reach a point where you make the choice as to whether or not you want to remain friends with these people.
That’s actually a pretty popular thing to do, especially in Europe. I spent some time in Turkey, and they’ll drink hot tea as a way to cool themselves down. Can’t say it worked for me, but the tea was delicious.
In college I waited tables – completely thankless job. One time I got tipped in Celebration Station coins and 10 cents in pennies on a $60+ lunch bill.
If that’s true, then it’s hilarious. If it’s not true, it’s still hilarious, and the kid will definitely laugh about it one day. Sounds like she’s pissed because it’s true.
I’m from Oklahoma, mom/her fam from Louisiana, but dad and his fam are from NY – there is serious contention about beans in chili. My mom makes award winning chili, but she does usually add red beans – not a Louisiana thing, definitely more of an Okie move. I have witnessed dad eating chili (no beans) over pasta, and I’ll be honest, it’s delicious.
Crock pots are essential for every type of life. I can feed the fam for two days off of a crock pot meal, don’t have to worry about cooking or extra dishes or anything. You can even make new meals from the leftovers. Crock pot roast turns into roast quesadillas two days later. Amazing.
That sure is a song.
I do WPM tests, great way to keep the fingers loose, and the harder I type the busier I sound. Total peace.
That last paragraph though…you doing ok?

Ayyyy me neither!

I don’t know why this has downvotes. Granted everyone has their preferred source of caffeine, but coffee is a staple.

Hopefully Claire.
I can’t tell if “hanksies” is code for hangry or hungover.

People need to chill out and lighten up. That tweet was hilarious, I don’t understand why he/she can’t just take a joke.

Omg I need to try that.
Actually small town Mississippi. Dallas levels of flaunting what they can’t afford with a side of country flair.
Beans in Louisiana are their own meal, not to be used as an added ingredient.
I’ve made ribs in a crock pot before, and they were FINE.
