Maybe life is more of a continual process of becoming, rather than a march towards some abstraction of a barometer of success. It is more of a sense continual movement in one’s day to day decisions that better align the actual with the ideal self.
Not to mention the costs that come up. Last week one dog needed six teeth pulled and this week my poor old dog had to go to the vet for seizures. While (hopefully) uncommon, vet bills are no joke.
It could also be a sort of violation of the cultural norms surrounding a bar. The general expectation is that a person goes there to have a drink or ten and it’s more uncommon for someone to go there with no intention of partaking in a ‘normal’ part of the experience.
