I’m being realistic about “sober January”, took the first week off entirely and now I’m modifying it to my terms. I’m not drinking when there’s no reason to. A couple beers after dinner on a Tuesday just because there’s some in the fridge? No thanks. Hosting trivia night on Wednesdays? Yeah, I’m gonna have a beer. Going out with friends tomorrow for the first time since November… well, I’ll see you all Sunday morning when I sober up and take another week off.
I’m a bartender at a brewery, and the only character traits I think make me better at it are: being a sociopath, and being intimately familiar with all the beer we have on tap. I’m a drunk asshole, sure, but I’m good at what I do.
I can’t stress enough the need to get out of the house once a day. I’ve been working from home for a bit over a year and not leaving the house or interacting with people will drag you down. Somewhere that you can talk with people is key, be it the gym, the bar, or the dog park. Face to face interaction is super important.
In a right-to-work state… maybe. However, the NLRB resoundingly has sided with workers when discussing pay rates, as it counts as protected concerted activity.
It’s incredibly uncommon that an employer would get away with firing someone for talking about their salary. Fortunately for them, most workers don’t know their rights.
My go-to move at open bars is to drop a $20 very visibly into the tip jar and then you get served first all night. I’m certainly getting more than $20 worth of food and drink, it only seems fair.
Catan is a trash game and I will defend that take until the day I die.

I’ve had people spend six hours at my brewery, never without a beer in their hand. You’d be surprised.
Can I print this off and show it to my parents?
What kind of nerd ass company is this and are you hiring

Get yourself some apricot jam or apple jelly to go with that brie.

I almost got a PM job at an ad agency a couple months ago and this makes me very upset that I didn’t.
Just started a few weeks ago. It’s amazing to me how many people are in the same boat and never acknowledge it or talk about it.
Near as I can tell, the only American owned macro beer is Yuengling. Pabst is owned by a Russian company and all the other domestics are AB InBev.

Trust your friendly neighborhood HR person. It’s cool.
Cheesecake is basically pie anyway. I’m with you on this take.
