Roch is a fun place to visit. Garbage plates are fantastic drunk food. Also, try to find some Zweigle’s hot dogs. I’m partial to the white hots, but the red hots seem to be the more popular option. You can’t go wrong with either one though. Enjoy the late-season wedding raging.

My pregnant wife is due today! So, I guess hopefully we will be in the hospital all weekend and end up a with a healthy baby and healthy mom. I am kind of hoping the baby doesn’t come until at least tomorrow night though, so I can squeeze in one last round of mostly carefee golf(I am sure she will go in labor when I am furthest from the clubhouse with spotty cell service though). If it comes today though, I will definitely be blasting that Earth, Wind, and Fire song to wake up our child every birthday for the rest of that kid’s life.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely check it out. Also, I didn’t think Au Cheval was mind-blowing(or even the best burger I’ve had in Chicago), but it is definitely a damn fine burger. Little Bad Wolf also makes a hell of a burger. If you have never been, it is a great spot. Small though, so there can be crazy lines. I live in the northern burbs and work in Evanston, so I might be biased as it is a lot closer to get there then into the city proper.

The first time I went to Au Cheval, a guy(not our waiter, I think it may have been a chef) spilled a full glass of red wine right completely on my wife’s cream colored sweater. I swear not a drop got on the floor, it was entirely on her. They comped our entire meal for 4 and paid for her dry cleaning(which miraculously saved the sweater). We would have been happy with significantly less as restitution, but they went above and beyond to take care of us. So, I am happy to pay for their burgers as they are tasty as hell, and it’s a very well run establishment. Their dry cleaning service must also be run by a magician to get all the wine out of that sweater.

While great advice, I’m not sure you read that post quite clearly. I agree with what you said, but he has already been doing the SA thing for awhile. Anyway, my advice, unless you are absolutely ready to settle into a “real life” in one spot, I’d keep doing the free travel every 3 weeks. It gets a lot harder to pull the trigger on trips like that the older you get. Maybe try to coordinate with friends to meet you in crazy places, and laugh when it’s the only trip that they get to make that year.

Try out Ward Eight on Howard. Pretty far north from where you usually venture, I’d reckon, but it is a fantastic cocktail spot. And they are only like $12 instead of $14 a piece, so basically a steal. Once in a while hitting a place like that is a good start to the night before you hit your usual dive bar and get into whatever the cheapest beer/shot combo they have is. But absolutely only order drinks like that at a craft cocktail bar since long drink-making times are part of their schtick. Ordering anything with more than 2 ingredients(lime/lemon/whatever garnishes don’t count) at a normal bar is a pretentious dick move.

I’m down for this discussion. I’ve always been a charcoal guy, but the new house we just bought a couple weeks ago has a natural gas hookup on the back patio for a grill. So, I was looking at the Weber Genesis 310 if I don’t go charcoal. Anyone used a natural gas grill before? And is stainless steel or enamel the way to go? I live just north of Chicago and will buy a cover, but still think I probably need stainless steel to keep it from rusting.

It could be weirder. My mom taught at my boarding school. Her apartment was connected to our old dorm, so it did give us a great place to get hammered and roam around after the events/bars for our major reunions. But it also meant I was around for practically every reunion until I moved out after college.
