This is exactly how my relationship with my younger brother is and I’ve been jealous of my friends who have siblings closer in age and have a best friend type of relationship. We are seven years apart in interested in totally different things. I’m more analytical and went into banking (regulation). He’s very much into physics, coding, computers in general and wants to go to work for Space X or NASA; something that allows him to build rockets when he graduates from college. He can also speak a foreign language fluently and no one else in my family can say more than a few words of Spanish. I was thinking about this a few months ago and realized that in the past, I made fun of him a bit because he was so into computers and science and I wasn’t. Since then I’ve tried to be more inquisitive of him when he talks about whatever he’s studying. Now that we are closer in maturity levels, we’ve gotten a little closer. We got together over FaceTime (live 6 hours apart) and watched the Falcon Heavy Space X rocket launch and he was explaining to me what all was going on at different points in the launch stage. Reading this has made me realize I need to just talk to him more and stay in better contact.
After watching the generations before us get laid off after a bad quarter or two or just before they were to get a pension they worked 30 years for, you bet your ass we aren’t loyal to our employers. The only friends I know that intend to stay at their current company long term are both paid well and work for a company that promotes from within and hires from outside as a last resort. The others are just their to collect a paycheck and do their work well enough so their manager will say something good about them when they hop to another company. Companies pay millions of dollars for some 50 something year old to tell them how to better retain their millennial workers. Its simple, show some loyalty to your workers, pay a fair salary, and be a bit flexible and you’ll be able to keep your millennials.
This is all too real for me currently. 3 years ago, I moved for my current job 6 hours from home and 3-6 hours from my friends from college. In that time I’ve made a few friendships as shallow as a puddle and one true friendship like I have with my lifelong and college buddies. But they have moved away. Branching out and doing rec league sports has put me in contact with others my age or in the same stage of life as me, but many are in serious relationships or are content with their group of friends. It also doesn’t help living in OK where many people marry young or right out of college and aren’t really looking to expand their friend circle to some guy they know only through softball.
Make your grass the greenest, most luscious grass in the hood and mow it to a specific height that just so happens to be a bit higher than your neighbor mows it. Or just be like the asshole that lived next to me when I was growing up and get some flowerbed bordering bricks and bury it along the wrong property line for him to mow over and fuck up his mower blade. Fuck you Terry.
Low key weekend since next weekend is a big trip with some college buddies. Tonight, going to a minor league baseball game. Maybe with friends if they ever text me back. Tomorrow, going to pick up a new desk and set up my home office and give the apartment a good cleaning. Probably going out with friends later in the night. Sunday, call my Dad for Father’s Day and find out if his Omaha Steak gift came (promo: THICC), do some laundry and just have a general lazy day. Maybe get in a good hour at the gym if I don’t feel bad from the night before.
This is an accurate take. Games are short and the skill level required is low enough that even the most hand-eye coordination challenged individuals at the party have a chance to embarrass someone
Currently 95 with a low of 78 tonight in OKC. A/C is on and the windows are down. Also, I live in a 1st floor unit that faces the communal “courtyard” so the window will never go up.
The only time I branch out on beers or cocktails is when I knowingly go to a place that doesn’t serve Miller Lite or is a low key cocktail bar known for their craft cocktails. All other times its Millers or bourbon and ginger ales.
A buddy of mine dressed like Bill Lumbergh for Halloween a few years ago. Talked like him all night no matter the interaction. Listening to him hit on girls using the Lumbergh tone and cadence was probably the best part of the night and it worked for him.
4/6 on being a full adult. The only time there is more than one pillow on my bed is when a lady spend the night. And I don’t have a shit chair to hold random clothes. That’s what the area around my wicker hamper is for.
In an article I read about this earlier today, his father was quoted saying he recommended his son sell some of his “weapons” in order to get some cash to move out. There is no way his dad wasn’t referring to his sword and nun-chuck collection.
Student loans (government) can’t be discharged in bankruptcy and don’t have an underlying asset to take like mortgages. Failure to pay will just result in wage garnishments. The government will get their money. I don’t think the market will “crash” like it did in the recession. I think the burden of student loan payments on millennials, and later Gen Z, will cause a drag on the economy. We wont be able to buy the homes from the boomers who are looking to downsize in retirement. We won’t be able to consume as much as previous generations, which isn’t good for our consumer and consumption based economy. I think in the next few years we will have a market correction, per the cyclical nature of the markets. But in 7-10 years we will begin to see lower and lower home prices as boomers raise the stock of available housing without a corresponding level of demand to purchase them.
If there is a part of town that you want to live in that seems to only have these “luxury” apartments and nothing else listed on Zillow or Apartments.com, drive through the adjacent neighborhoods on the weekends and scout for some rent signs. I did that an managed to find a good renovated apartment with the trimmings of a “luxury” apartment for less than I was paying in the burbs. An now ubers cost me $10-$20 round trip vs. the $40-$60+ before

I live right down the street from there but I’ve never been. I’ll have to check it out.
Oh cool. If you’re ever at Bleu Garten this summer, we’ll probably run into each other.

The blackout mooner is better off without her wet blanket of an ex. I second PGP Clay: #bringbackmooning

You know what they say about the weather in (insert city/state/area), just wait (some number) minutes and it will change

Headed to Hot Springs, AR for a lake house weekend with some college buddies. All beers and no sleeves and couldn’t be more excited
