Dietcoke_Addict has been addicted to caffeine longer than she cares to admit. When she is not enjoying an ice, cold diet coke she can be found explaining to her students that winning a game of foursquare isn’t really a TFM.

I teach middle school. I actually enjoy it, 90% of the time they are unique and hilarious creatures. However, by now they have checked out, can’t say I blame them, and impossible to work with and teach.

Taking a boyfriend to the barn is the absolute worst. He is bored and thinks you are going to bone in the hay despite the copperheads hiding in there. You get irritated because he messes with the flow of your barn routine by doing stupid shit like trying to hold your hand. 9/10 he says the dumbest things like:
    Why doesn’t’ he like me?
Are you supposed to do that? It looks like a sex move?
How do I feed him treats again?
Boyfriends have no place at the barn…ever and if you get dragged there I am sorry. I have only brought willing victims who what to plead to go. I would much prefer it if they didn’t want to go to the barn. Please let me do my own thing.

The recovery process is a long one. I went Greek in college which helped me gain the social skills I lacked in high school. It also helps when you’re the one paying for it not your parents. You start to realize that other things are more important and sometimes it’s just a horse, not the whole world. The woman I lease a horse from is in her 50s and still doesn’t understand that and is still single. It inspired me to draw some connections.

We have no grip on reality at all…we live in a make believe world were we think we are the center of. I will say this my parents cut me off of riding expenses after I sold my horse to pay for college- which he did- and it gave me a whole new outlook on the sport. To the point I look at the women I ride with at the barn where I lease a horse that they are literally all bat-shit crazy.

As a teacher, I don’t take my work home with me unless it’s something I enjoy doing- creating assignments, projects, or PowerPoints. That being said, our job ends at 3:30. I do the thankless part of it from 4-6 (which is when most other jobs end) and only take home what I want to work on if I need to take anything at all. It’s doable even for teachers. For everyone’s information, not all teachers are tenured. I work in a private school and my job is on the line same as all of yours each year.

When I was 5 I really wanted to be Cinderella but my parents didn’t want to spend the money. So my mother dressed me up as a clown and told me I was Cinderella. She even covered all the mirrors in our house. I didn’t realize till after trick or treating when I got to my grandma’s house… I was traumatized to say the least.

I quit my job after my principal told me I was too stupid to teach middle school. Those were her exact words in my end of the year review. She wanted me to teach a lower grade where I wouldn’t be so “stupid and could actually control my students” she wasn’t even there most of the day so I had no place to send the misbehaving students anyway not to mention I have a very specific certification which would not allow me to teach anything else. While I was driving up to work the next week I realized I could make the same amount of money waitressing and have a lot less stress from this school (I was in charge of confirmation, graduation, STUCO, and Quiz Bowl). I was working on my masters at the time and figured fuck it I don’t need to work for a boss that thinks I am too stupid to teach 14 yr olds. She was shocked when I told her I quit. When she asked why I told her that I didn’t think she would give a contract to someone who was too “stupid” and walked away. It was the best career move of my live.
