My heart goes out to the author. I had a mild panic attack my senior year of college. It was when I was already home for the night, and I knew enough about the symptoms (thanks Psych 101!) to know what it was and that the only thing I could do was ride it out. It lasted for about 45 minutes before my body just couldn’t sustain that level of excitement anymore and I fell asleep. I haven’t had one since, and I can’t imagine what I would have done if it was in public in broad daylight.
Good on you for writing about it and helping dispel the notion that it’s only “real loonies” that suffer from real, treatable, manageable illnesses.
I don’t think he was describing one ongoing panic attack. Hell, panic attacks can be triggered by just remembering panic attacks. Just because he hit the threshold for number of panic attacks in 6 months in a matter of hours doesn’t make it any less an anxiety/panic disorder.
God, Key West is pretty much the “Florida” of Florida. I highly recommend vacationing there at least once just to fully understand how weird/mellow/fun it is.
I notice you didn’t recommend any episodes from season 2.
… That’s definitely for the best… Its saving grace was that the Writer’s Strike happened and so it ended earlier than it should have, giving everyone enough time to realize the big mistake they were making and readjust accordingly.
The Reagan recovery? You mean where he tripled the size of the debt and Volkler (a Carter appointee) had to raise federal interest rates just to try and control inflation?
The “Carter recession” was also caused by tight monetary policy. The Great Recession (or should I call it the “Bush recession” since you’re now attributing recessions to the presidents who presided over them?) was caused by structural failures in the economy. Those are vastly different things, so you are literally comparing apples and oranges.
We are, by every definition, in a recovery. Structural-based recessions have always had weaker recoveries. And when the 2009 recession is likened to “the worst since the Great Depression,” and it took most of the ’30s to recover from it (recovery might have happened sooner if not for austerity measures in 1937 that caused a brief recession… hey, where have I heard that idea before?), I’m not sure why you’re expecting a speedy recovery. Does it suck to be a post-grad in this? Yes. But welcome to life: it’s not supposed to be easy.
And furthermore? Nothing related to that is being addressed here.
This is just political chest-thumping against a strawman that would fit in better on, well, any other site. I’d rather have another listicle than this, to be honest.
You should. Statistically speaking, you’re probably not going to be working there in 6 months. Might as well leave on your own terms before they take this time to replace you.
So, Zaytinya’s? I’m surprised you were able to get a reservation.
(And yes to all of this. Tapas is one of the most unsatisfying experiences I’ve ever had. 40 dollars later, and I swear to God I was hungrier than when I started eating.)
You can pry my gin and tonic from my cold, dead fingers. If it was good enough for Brits making sure they didn’t get malaria while they were busy subjugating the Indians, it’s good enough for me.
I still want to know what she’ll get me for my “engagement.” And I’m sure as hell not going to wear a diamond ring.
Instead of using HTML tags, just use [img ] and [/ img], without the spaces.
Geez, next thing you’ll tell me that Julia Roberts wasn’t just a “pretty woman” to Richard Gere!

Yeah, write about Texas instead! There aren’t enough articles about Texas either!

Wait, am I picturing my dad in between his hands now, or what?

And Q2 2014 GDP grew by 4.2%. What’s your point?

Now can we get back to funny things?

This is a post-grad problem… How?
New York to DC is great. DC to Jacksonville or Charlotte is hell though. Travelling via train in the South just isn’t worth it…
Gchat statuses are the new facebook statuses… Been complaining about work for years on that and never been caught.
… Da fuq did I just read?

But… the ad impressions! Those precious precious ad impressions!
