I’m on the Hill now, but campaigned before and go back for my boss’s races. Campaigns are like start ups. Don’t worry about the way things are always done, if you have a good idea to improve something you should float it. Get creative, especially in research. Also, don’t get impostor syndrome – the campaign lifestyle means most staff are young and inexperienced. Every job on a campaign is about connecting with people in some way, which life has prepared you for by now. Put in the hours, improve upon operations in your office, and don’t do anything stupid (especially on email, social media, anything digital). Also – know what your department’s tasks are and how the whole organization functions. There is very little strategy or “politics” in a campaign office, other people determine that like your pollster and media consultant. Know what you’re role is and focus on that, don’t be the new guy who says they want to do “strategy”.
Right, I got that. But how does “Girl” get Blazer’s number over to Alex’s phone if Girl’s phone is dead? Did she memorize it? Write it down? Did Alex get Blazer’s number too, and if so why doesn’t she just make plans to link their group’s up w/o pretending to be Girl?
If I get someones number and my phone dies, I can’t turn to my buddy and text them because the only place I’d have their number is on my dead phone.
No. Nono. No no no. No.
They shrink in the closet.
