The day they cut the New Girl intro down into a 3 second blip was a great day. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a disproportionate like for a show and dislike for its theme.
I loved DDB, but due to what you mentioned here, it became redundant with the same 3 guys answering the same questions from listeners entering the job market.
I saw this on the marquee of the Granada in Lawrence and seriously wondered what the experience would be like. Sounds like it was just as I’d expected.
Here in KC, many of the starter homes are being bought up by management companies to rent them out. They’re paying over asking price with cash. It’s hard to compete against.
If we’re going to split hairs like that, where I work, offices run almost autonomously. It’s essentially leaving. That’s not the point, though. If it were another company offering the same thing, I’d take it.
It may be a factor but “mostly” is way off base. I’m making a move like bhtigers because with a kid I can no longer afford to wait. Call me Stanley Hudson, because another office within my company is offering double pay to move.
It’s no coincidence that the generation that watched their parents have everything ripped away after slugging it out every day, staying loyal to their companies, having a mortgage, investing conventionally, etc, wants to watch out for #1 and not waste their life.
This is probably anecdotal evidence based on my 5 or so years in the corporate world, but it really seems like companies are increasingly hesitant to promote from within. You have to look externally to get a fair evaluation of what you’re worth. Also, regarding the consultants telling companies how to retain millennials, I feel like their solutions (ping pong tables, bring your dogs to work, lax dress code, etc) are all distractions from the fact that there are no longer pensions, company cars, things that used to be somewhat commonplace.
I recommend GroupMe, it has been a godsend to my college friend group. We’ve spread out across the country but not a day goes by where there’s not some activity on there. Plus, you can access it on your browser so it’s a great way to dick around at work.
Transplants should be given a free pass, as long as they’re not trying to appear like they’ve been in it for the long haul.
It can be really hard not to fanhood virtue signal when you’ve been a day 1 OG. At the end of the day, though, the bandwagoners that know you will probably recognize that it means more to you than it does them.
This is on par with “oh, never heard of it.” Yeah, didn’t expect you to be an expert in brokerage firms.

I related to this so much. Double that with the fact that it’s also blared during the outro and it’s a jarring experience.
Bring back the $7 HyVee seats. We deserve it with this heat & record breaking season

Top Gun 2 is probably going to be terrible and I’m already sad.

They did equally as cringeworthy stuff based on their environment at the time, they just didn’t have the internet to broadcast it to the world.

Steady mix of “Da Bomb” and “Criss Cross” hitting Alstott out of the backfield
“it was 75 and sunny” I am just green with jealous rage right now
TJ’s amazing frozen food selection and dirt cheap wine make it way too easy to phone it in.
Boy, we sure needed that rain, though.

Scheduled “Do Not Disturb” feature on the iPhone is key.
