Valid point about the cost – the issue is that these mega-races (like the Indy Mini) need to attract a bunch of people. In order to do that, you need to give everyone a tech shirt, a finisher medal, prerace and postrace events, race photographs, and every other kind of amenity, all of which cost money for the organizer. It’s a vicious circle really – and also a commentary on why people do these races.
Terrible take Nick, ending baseball in September gives you that much longer until meaningful basketball and hockey games are played. Also it’s only like 3 weeks from the Super Bowl to meaningful college basketball. I’d do May-October for baseball.
Competitive marathoner here, currently in the middle of a 100 mile week and can confirm that runner’s high is bullshit. The best I feel is when the damned thing is over with for another day.
