This. My dad has been wearing park aves for 30 years. He bought me a pair when I got my first internship in college, I haven’t looked back since. It truly is just a classic shoe. I’ve since upped my AE collection to 5 pairs, and it’s been worth every penny.
Related to actuaries, the insurance sector is a great place to be. Half of the workforce is due to retire in the next 7 years and there are always carriers or agencies hiring in just about every city. I’m not talking car insurance, but rather property & casualty.
Is anyone else slowly purging people from social media? I’m 3 years out of college now and have slowly realized I just don’t care enough about a lot people to even want to see what they are up to. Just because we took shots at the bar together 5 years ago doesn’t make me care about your new baby. I’ve found it very satisfying to unfriend people as of late, cutting my list of “friends” on Facebook from a thousand to under 500, one click at a time.
I spent a good 30 minutes yesterday looking into Bakers Bay while at the office. Place looks like a real dream destination for a buddies trip (except it’s private).
I always get excited to stream the Masters at work, and then the schedule comes out and I remember that they essentially don’t televise half the tournament.
I was blessed with a fantastic metabolism. I eat ok, although on the weekends it’s usually beer and greasy food. I do not work out really in any capacity, but am stick thin. My girlfriend is an avid runner and has been trying to get me to join her. Unfortunately, I am so out of shape I don’t even know where to begin and I think it’s starting to irritate her.
I bought my first home 3 weeks ago (yet to close). Had the inspection and paid a plumber to scope (and record) the pipes for $120. Found minor pooling in the pipes as they have settled, but nothing needing immediate attention or repair. Beyond the inspector, definitely worth hiring a plumber to take a look. A major plumbing fix can be thousands of dollars and could be a deal breaker. It’s worth it to pay the extra money up front to have a plumber take a look.
The IMDB page for the TFM movie says its completed. There is a single review which says the movie is completely awful (no surprise with a low budget). Maybe the product is so bad it’ll never see the light of day. It’s been over 3 years since their big crowdfunding campaign, and it’s been radio silence since.
I agree. It looks delicious but I wonder how much was custom tailored to this grand opening and if the same menu will be rolled out nationwide. Only one way to find out…
Congrats! I am closing on my first house next month. With taxes/insurance my monthly is $1360. Roommate would be a good idea for me to cut cost but I’m going to attempt it alone for a while.
I’ve just recently gotten serious about buying a home. I’ve got the down payment covered, but between the mortgage and more expensive utilities, my monthly would be increasing about 5-600 bucks. It’s borderline unaffordable on a monthly basis, but I’m sick of paying rent and living in a place that will never feel like home, so I plan to take the leap and suffer through whatever consequences comes with it, all in the name of having a place to call my own.
I love rooting for this guy, but even I have had to question his decision making recently. It was 1 day before the season ended. This kid legitimately could not wait one single night to go to Vegas. His commitment to partying is unrivaled.
Another great article! My two keys are persistence and networking. Sending your resume through an online portal is about as good as throwing that same resume in the trash. Find 5+ people (established in their careers) and meet for coffee, pick their brain, etc. At the very least, you learn what you do or don’t want to do, and one of those people could be key in getting you employed. It’s time consuming, and isn’t always fun, but being persistent in the job hunt pays off. People give up too easily and then get down on themselves. Keep at it, keep networking, and eventually something will fall your way.
These two things have been paramount in my (short) career so far.
I take the bus to work. One comes every 5 minutes, yet I make sure I am on the same exact one every day at 7:28am. Feels like my whole day is thrown off if I’m not on that bus. Routines can become mundane, but the 5 days of that allow you to not have a routine on the weekend, and that makes it all worth it.

I’ve had the username for over 2 years, but glad to have another nine to fiver in the mix.

3 locations in Tennessee? Might be time to expand your horizons a bit.
I hope one day I can be successful enough to count “shortage of 40 year old Scotch” as one of my problems.
It’s some weird New York thing where all the high end restaurants have eliminated tipping.
Chipotle isn’t new by any standards. I’m 25 now, when I was in 7th grade Chipotle already had 300+ locations.
What about the HOA fee? In my area, that’s at least another $300+ a month, which when added to the taxes makes a condo less affordable than a house.
