Third Place: Bumble
As far as interface goes, Bumble is exactly the same as Tinder, save for two respects. First, Bumble’s color scheme is yellow and not red. Second, once a man and woman match, the woman has 24 hours to initiate conversation or each person gets shuffled back into their respective pool of potential matches. Now, you would think that this changes the dynamic of the conversations, but then you would be wrong. Bumble was sold as a more woman-friendly app, in contrast to the abject creepiness of Tinder, but I can’t speak to that given that I am a man and I am way too self-conscious to send creepy messages (at least intentionally). What I can speak to is the fact that even though women have to message first, what I usually get sent is some variation on “Heyy.” Step up your game ladies; if that were my opener every time I matched with someone, I would never get a response. The sad thing is that I still do respond to those, mostly because of Bumble’s saving grace: the talent is good.
Verdict: Cheesy attempts at gender-norm destruction notwithstanding, attractive prospects and lack of swipe limits like Tinder make this a staple in any person’s dating app folder.
Bumble: where women get to try their own creative pickup lines like “hi” and “hey” and “hello”
Best one I’ve received on bumble: “sup biatch?” My heart melted.
Oh how the tables have turned.
What about Craigslist?
AdultFriendFinder or bust.
I’m sure Hinge is great for some people, especially if they live in the same state where they grew up of went to college. But I moved to NC and I absolutely didn’t know anyone. Hinge wasn’t very helpful because I didn’t have any Facebook friends in NC, and therefore no matches. Which seems counter intuitive since dating apps are supposed to help you meet new people.
Why would you want to meet new people? Ron Swanson said one to three friends is plenty
I don’t think he meant that those friends should all live 600+ miles away from you.
Ron Swanson does prefer his alone time.
The guy I’m currently dating and I are from different countries, (he’s from Hong Kong, I’m from the US) and we met on Hinge. We were connected by a random girl he had met in Hong Kong and a friend of mine through college, who met equally as randomly. I would 100% recommend you keep trying. It worked out well for me.
Maybe it’s just me but I’ve tried Bumble in 3 different cities and never gotten a single match
PGP
Grindr is the best one by far
You still gonna stick with the “LittleKidLover” screen name?
Bumble has been my favorite (LA area), the attractiveness on there is absurd. You can just blindly swipe right and then wait for somebody to message you.
It’s extremely low effort, high reward, with the women messaging first acting as filter that basically guarantees you can get a first date.
Buddy in SF swears by Hinge though.
Yes. It is true. I, Michael Scott, am signing up with an online dating service. Thousands of people have done it, and I am going to do it. I need a username, and… I have a great one. ‘Little Kid Lover’. That way people will know exactly where my priorities are at.
I feel like each of the different apps draw in a different pool of clientele based on what they are looking for.
Tinder: Definitely has the most “Hook-up” oriented users. With more emphasis on physical appearance and cheesy pick up lines, one or two dates should get the job done.
Hinge: Takes account of a more flushed out profile and trying to match people from similar socio-economic class and upbringings. Great tool for people looking for a more long term relationship.
Bumble: Similar to Tinder, but more power in the woman’s hands, and definitely more attractive roster.
I don’t have any experience CMB and The League. but…..
3nder: When I’m drunk, alone, and feeling weird late nights downtown.
Problem with Bumble is the power is in the woman’s hands, and most never send a message, but rather use it as a trophy room of guys to brag to their friends about.
Is that right?
I’m a Bumble fan all the way. Like you said, I believe girls like it better because you don’t get verbally raped by a guy at once. The guttertrash you see on Tinder is also not on it.
My biggest complaint though, is that the match disappears in only 24 hours if you don’t message. That seems a little short to me, especially since I’m convinced there is a solid inverse proportion of how cool of a person you are:how often you check your phone.
I agree with the girls giving pickup lines too. Ladies, guys love a solid dad joke. Don’t be afraid to lay one on us.
Don’t you have a girlfriend, Todd…..
And just like every day…you’ve gone and made my (gif) day.
