The PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, begins next week. Things I’m excited for on this trip: finally seeing TPC Sawgrass in person, approach shots into the 17th green, the general atmosphere surrounding the 17th, the rowdiness of the patrons I keep hearing about, swinging the sticks, trying and reviewing Publix subs, Eldrick, our beach house, and the content we’ll be getting out of the entire experience.
We’re learning that a big part of the PLAYERS experience is about what’s going on around the tournament as much as what’s going on inside the ropes. Should be fun. The forecast looks sexy, Tiger has committed to play, and your favorite small-to-medium-sized podcast will be in town from Monday, May 7 until Saturday, May 12.
We want you to join us. You should absolutely get tickets to attend the tournament, but even if you don’t, we want to hang out.
Our itinerary is packed — surfing lessons, concerts, dinners, golf, podcasts, and of course the tournament — but on Thursday night we will be at Hoptinger, a bar that many of you have recommended to us. It’s right by the beach, apparently? We will be arriving around 8:00 on Thursday, May 10 (subject to change – stay up with us on Twitter) and we encourage all of you in the area to drop by and say hi.
We’re talking beer flights.
Hoptinger is the only place inked in on our Thursday night itinerary as of right now. We need recommendations from you for more places to go in the area, should this one-bar outing turn into a multi-beach bar crawl.

I played Sawgrass in September. I don’t really have anything to add, but I just thought everyone should know that I did, in fact, play Sawgrass.
Are you guys taking beer flights of literally one beer but with a bunch of different beers mixed in like we used to do at soda fountains as kids before life ripped our faces off?
If anyone has some gym recommendations that are walking or running distance of Sawgrass, that would be much appreciated.
You would.
Ponte Vedra Fitness is probably less than a quarter mile from Sawgrass. Small but gets the job done.. not really any other big box type gym around unless you go up to Jax Beach
Post-Hoptinger suggestions… Surfer, Green Room Brewing, Brix, Lynch’s (recommended for late night only haha, dive-y bar but usually has good live music). Lemon Bar is a good time too if you guys need a day-drinking spot while you’re here (10 min north of the JB bars in Atlantic Beach).
A little more of a small gem but The Wine Bar is a nice chill area in the middle of everything if you need a break from the main bars and Casa Marina for some sunset happy hour on the balcony looking over the ocean.

Hoptinger is chill, great place to start a night. But you have to be ready for someone to say “alright ready to hit surfers?” & that’s when you decide what kind of night you want to have.
