At what point am I too old to enjoy Halloween? If there is a social norm that states a 26-year-old man cannot partake in Halloween, I am completely oblivious to it because I love Halloween.
Certainly the holiday doesn’t break the top 3 in the power rankings, but for me it is a solid tier-2 holiday, somewhere between Labor Day and St. Patrick’s Day. As a kid, it meant balling out with your friends as your favorite super hero, collecting pounds of candy that would inevitably go stale on the account of your mother limiting your intake to four pieces a day. Unless you had one of those cool parent’s. Just kidding, momma Cush, you’re the real MVP. I stuffed handfuls of candy in in my lunch box when you weren’t looking, by the way.
Nowadays, the dozens of fun size snickers that were consumed as a child have translated to nips of fireball at a 1:1 ratio. Costumes have turned into “how little clothing can I wear and get away with it.” Halloween is a living celebration (ha) that has grown and evolved with us through the years, and it will continue to do so.
Although I can’t speak to it myself as I have not taken the plunge into parenthood just yet, I am told by friends who have kids that Halloween is just as fun with little ones around. Instead of planning the ultimate couple’s costume with your S.O., you now have little ones to dress as the cutest minions ever and show them off to your neighbors. I’m not ready for kids just yet, but I’d be lying if I said those little fuckers don’t give me all the feels when I see them waddling around in costumes that always seem to be a little too big on them.
For now, I’m happy to use this holiday as a brief escape from reality. It’s an excuse to dress like an idiot and laugh at my friends who do the same. It’s justification to get loose with some cold ones and people watch. Whether it is out at the bars or at a house party – the scenery never disappoints. From Harley Quinn to Lt. Dan, every costume is a spectacle to behold that you only see once a year. Everyone is on the same playing field and is trying to get just as drunk as you are. And that face paint you’re wearing might be just enough of a mask to convince the kitty cat across the bar that you’re cute. So when you’re out and about tonight, relish in the joy that is Halloween. Forget the fact that the next day is Wednesday and we all have to work. Who wants to rage?.
“When I became a man put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” Sums up my feelings on Halloween, and why I celebrate it every year.
Halloween is a top three drinking holiday. I can and will have a debate on this.
Halloween is the most overrated holiday. I can and will have a debate on this.
NYE is the most overrated by far
wholeheartedly agree
It’s NYE and it really isn’t even close.
4th of July is tops by far. Grow up, Peter Pan. I’ll take BBQ’s and obnoxious patriotism over playing dress up every time.
“Drinking” being the key modifier here. Which I did not use.
You lightweights have obviously never been to Mardi Gras.
The Gras is awesome, but it really only counts as a holiday in a handful of cities. Most people don’t even know it means “Fat Tuesday.”
Dude, it’s not even a Top-5 drinking holiday
-4th of July
-Memorial Day
-St. Patrick’s Day
-Thanksgiving
-Christmas Eve
I’d say it’s even below Labor Day and Super Bowl Sunday (I don’t care if it’s not a “real holiday”)
One of the things I’m most looking forward to about having a kid is going to be pulling a fully stocked bar around in a wagon while they’re trick or treating
Might not have my priorities in order yet.
Damn straight. I just put up my outdoor decorations this year – one of my favorite things is seeing all the kids come up to the door and telling them there’s no limit to how much candy they can grab.
Halloween is the best holiday, and I plan on celebrating it every year. My parents are in their 50’s and they decorate every year, they already have halloween candy out in the candy dishes.
Hard ‘sup?
What are the top 3 holidays then if Halloween and St Patrick’s Day are tier-2?
1.) Thanksgiving
2.) Christmas
3.) Independence Day
Order can be debated.
1. Christmas
2. Halloween
3. Thanksgiving
4. Independence Day
I am prepared to fight those who disagree.
I actually contend that the day before Thanksgiving is a bigger drinking holiday than Thanksgiving is but you do you.
Going to take an online exam tonight then play Fallout 4 until I pass out on the couch. Alcohol will be involved.
Fuck, wrong thread..

Unpopular opinion, but I really dislike Halloween. Always have and I wish I didn’t, but I do. I usually just sign up to work so I have an excuse to be busy and people don’t give me a hard time.
You dislike Halloween that you want to spend your time taking care of all the idiots that do something stupid on the holiday instead? Geez.
I don’t work in the ER so I don’t get that kind of stuff it’s just like any other night at work. But yeah, I’d rather get paid then pretend to enjoy a holiday I don’t like. I don’t knock people who do like it, I’ve just never been a Halloween person.
I agree. I always plan a trip to visit my friends lake house to get away from town and people.
Absolutely, trash of all “holidays”
