There’s a reason museums exist. To pay homage to great works of art. These priceless relics remain untouched for centuries, for all to come to admire. They are protected with the utmost reverence. So, color me not shocked at all that the powers-that-be want to dust off one of pop culture’s greatest works and re-animate a long dead corpse that should remain undisturbed.
According to reports, NBC is going to be rebooting the greatest television comedy of all time, “The Office.”
I could not be more disappointed.
This is why cautionary tales like “Pet Sematary” exist. You do not want to dig up something that’s already dead. You do not know what you are going to get. Hollywood cannot help itself, and I’m not talking about all the jerking off into potted plants going on. Hollywood cannot stop rebooting shit.
If there is anything in the world that doesn’t need a reboot, it is “The Office.” That show was a 10/10 for seven seasons, and I’d argue that the last two seasons are pretty under appreciated as well, but it’s obvious that the show struggled without the greatest TV character of all time, Michael Scott.. The perfect finale also damn well made up for the penultimate and final seasons’ shortcomings. Absolute emotional roller coaster of an episode and a flawless cherry on top of a once in a generation cultural moment.
You just can’t do this. Ask anyone aged 21-34 what their favorite TV show of all time is, and I’d be willing to bet at least half of them say it was “The Office.” This is just so beyond stupid and showcases an incredible lack of creativity by big wigs at major networks on how to inject life into a pretty meh lineup.
This is gonna be like “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” all over again. You’ll have some fresh faces who try to play one-offs of the old main characters and a couple goofballs like Screech (Kevin) and Mr. Belding (Darryl) for the sake of familiarity. “See! It’s the same thing!”
You just won’t be able to catch lightning in a bottle twice like you did with the greatest on-screen romance of our time in Jim and Pam, the on again off again relationship between Michael and Dwight or Michael’s attempts at finding love. You just won’t.
HOWEVAH, I would not be entirely opposed to a reboot that involves Will Ferrell as DeAngelo Vickers. Easily the most underrated character in the entire show.
Even with original showrunner Greg Daniels calling the shots, I’m not optimistic. The show was a masterpiece. Leave it on Netflix for all to enjoy for all eternity, because the day they remove “The Office” from Netflix is the day I cancel my subscription..
The Arrested Development reboot is all the evidence you need of what a horrendous idea this is.
I actually didn’t hate season 4. After the first few episodes, once the storylines came together, it was pretty good. Especially for an ensemble cast.
I agree. No disappointments with the reboot of arrested development, the whole point of that show is that the characters are going nowhere. All the jokes and humour were on point and the way they made everything come together shows crazy talent on the writers side.
But I also felt like HIMYM ended perfectly for how that show was written so what the fuck do I know.
I’d rather have the Schrute Farms spin-off than The Office reboot and I don’t even want that
Can’t we let good things come to an end for once? So disappointed.
I could not agree more with your takes on this. Specifically the finale being perfect. Had that not been the case, I would possibly be open to a short run of a reboot. But it’s totally unnecessary.
What should be done is another office style format in a completely different setting, think about all the possibilities if they made “The Gym” or something like that
They did that with Parks and Rec
Exactly, and that was an award winning success. Why bring back something from the grave when it could be easier to put a different setting and interesting characters into the same format?
@NBC SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE
Pam was literally the WORST. Huge mistake by the Big Tuna to wife her up.
You know, I couldn’t understand the Pam haters for the longest time. After watching The Office for the 12th time, I finally get it. After her and Jim get married, she truly becomes annoying and more insufferable as the seasons go on.

100% agree with everyone here, but I’d be lying if I said wouldn’t watch it. I know I’ll be disappointed, but much like Scrubs: Med Students, I loved the original enough to give it a shot
Well they can’t bring back Will Ferrell because he’s brain-dead on the show in easily one of the best moments of the series. But other than that, this take was perfect.
I don’t understand why the reboot everything and won’t reboot Friends
Friends doesn’t need a reboot in the same way that the Office doesn’t need a reboot. It was great when it ran, stands the test of time (thank you Netflix), and had great a great finale that tied everything up pretty nicely.
