Domino’s made history yesterday by becoming the first pizza chain to commercially deliver pizza by drone. This first of its kind feat occurred in New Zealand after months of trials and a partnership between Domino’s and the drone delivery company, Flirtey. The drone flew independently using GPS to track its delivery destination while drone experts monitored the situation.
The order consisted of a cranberry chicken pizza and a perri perri chicken pizza, although I totally would’ve went with the BBQ Lamb and Bacon if it were up to me.
By using drones, Domino’s can avoid heavy traffic and other holdups traditional pizza delivery has dealt with up until now. The drone was able to deliver the pizza in about half of the time it would have taken a normal delivery, which should prove to be key for hungover kiwis.
While this is a brand new concept for pizza, the use of drones has been used by other companies like Amazon in the past. There’s still no word when we’ll be able to call in our pizzas by drone here in the states. Once that happens though, it will ensure we can have finally a whole day without any human interaction sitting around hungover, wrapped in a blanket, ordering drone pizzas..
