The world is a harsh, dark, and cruel place. Is that sentence worded too strongly for a Monday? Yeah, it probably is, but it’s true. You know who it’s hardest for? Kittens. And puppies. I swear to God. Kittens are left in boxes in the rain with no home every single day. Puppies are abandoned on highways by people who are going straight to hell. Dating a vet for the past three years has hardened my soul because there are more days where she tries to help an animal that’s been hurt by a human than there are days that cared for puppies brought in needing a check-up. It’s heartbreaking to watch, let alone attempt to fix.
Over a week ago, the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA opened to find a bunch of twenty dollar bills inside their donation box. With the usual sprinkling of loose change combined with the occasional dollar bill you typically see scattered inside those types of boxes, seeing twenties in there must have felt like winning the lottery. Once all the cash had been counted, it amounted to a solid $8,000 dollars. That’s not enough to build a kitten condo or anything like that, but it’s enough to buy food, which for kittens is way more important. Whoever did this also did it anonymously which is even more commendable. How many of us can say that we would do the same if we knew we would get no credit for it? And with more than 12,000 animals in the care of this facility, I’m not exaggerating when I say that gift is lifesaving.
So, if you need a little pick-me-up for your Monday (and you’re not alone if you do), this is for you. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to donate a few bucks next time you’re near your local shelter. Or, better yet, grab a puppy under one arm and a kitten under the other and take them both home. The world will be a little brighter for it.

They missed out on a pretty nice tax deduction.
Taxes being first and foremost on your mind after a feel-good story. PGP.
i like the way you think
I have neighbors who adopt older dogs so they have a loving home in which to spend their final months. This morning when I left for work a new one was out in their yard, happy as can be. Definitely puts a smile on my face.
Got my cat at the humane society and I would definitely recommend them if you’re looking to adopt a pet.
My only problem is that it was donated to the Cat Center. The person must have been drunk while donating because you know the money would have been better spent on the puppy center instead.
