Unfortunately, work has taken most of my time the past 2-3 weeks. Working some Sundays, and into the night on weeknights, has left me little time to find new friends or be able to write any new articles. I apologize for leaving everyone hanging on the content (if any of you noticed). This happens to all of us, but thankfully work has slowed down and I’m back in the hunt for a new friend group.
The past three weeks have been good for me, though. It has given me time to reflect on what I’m looking for in a potential new friend group. Inside jokes other people won’t get that will make them feel secluded? A bromance that could rival that of Pauly D and Vinny on Jersey Shore? Yea, I’m game for all that, but there are a few specific things I’m looking for with a new group of dudes to bro out with.
Let’s break down what I’m hoping to find in a new crew.
Brunch Outings
It’s been months since I’ve done some damage to 2 for 1 Bloody Mary’s and Eggs Benedict, and I’ve had a hankering for such an outing for some time now. I need a crew that wants to go all out on a day drinking session that starts with a great brunch, and then segue into a night out. This is tricky to execute as you can lose some people after brunch who overdo it, but when navigated correctly is a day well spent.
With football season upon us, it’s a great time for brunch. Get an outside patio seat, watch a few games, eat some overpriced food, and then spend the remainder of the day watching football and drinking.
Trivia Nights
No better way to break up the work week in my opinion than doing a trivia night every now and then. Yeah, they can get dull if you choose a poorly run trivia, but of the ones I’ve attended we’ve always had a good time. It’s beer, typically some good food, and something other than heading home on a weeknight to rewatch The Office for the 800th time. Again, it’s been months since I’ve attended a trivia and I want this worked back into the routine.
Golf Group
I haven’t played golf in centuries, and I’m honestly terrible. However, I feel the need to get back into the game. Crushing beers and ripping drives into the trees is really what can create an unbreakable bond of friendship for a group of dudes. To this day, I don’t think there’s a better way for a group of men to bond than over 18 holes of golf (minus getting blackout together). While I may need to hit the range a few times before accepting any golf invites in the near future, this is something I’m desperate to work back into my social calendar.
TITANS and Predators Games
I love going to Preds games, and in 3 years I’ve never been to a TITANS game which is a damn shame. I was anti-hockey until I got dragged to a Preds game a few years ago with my first group of roommates, and ever since then I’ve been hooked. The atmosphere is pretty damn incredible, and now that the TITANS are becoming at least watchable, it’s time to attend my very first NFL game. Coming from a state that has no pro franchises, it’s pretty bad ass to have multiple pro teams in your city. It’s something I want to get back into taking advantage of, and hockey season is right around the corner.
Of course, there are other things I’d love to take advantage of in Nashville more. Concerts, beer festivals, and anything and everything this town has to offer, which is a lot. I’m always down to try new events in town I haven’t given a shot before, and I just need a group of people who are willing to do the same.
Now that work has settled back down, it’s time to get back on the hunt. First things first: time to look into the Nashville Kickball scene. Here’s hoping I don’t get paired with a bunch of nerds..
Walton, we’re friends on Twitter and that’s as real as friendship gets these days, homie
Damn straight.
Sounds nerdy, but I have a friend group that will get down with settlers of catan nights every now and then. It brings out the best and worst in people, which makes for an exciting night.
Settlers is great, especially when your friend is in charge of distributing the resources and constantly slips you cards under the table.
If I caught something like this I would excommunicate all involved parties.
I like your style. Also, no wheat means defeat.
Settlers is an excellent way to get good friends to hate each other. Can’t approve more
Try Cards Against Humanity next time. Guaranteed hilarity.
If there’s not a Nashville PGP Subreddit or GroupMe yet, I’m all for getting one put together
Agree
Also down for this
Just got the GroupMe set up. Go on to Reddit and search “PostGradProblem” and you’ll see the NashvillePGP subreddit that will tell you how to get involved
Down for this. Just moved to Nashville 3 weeks ago.
Welcome to Nash!
My handles are in my bio. Let’s get this going
I’m game for this as well. DM’s are open.
App user here.
Clueless, I know, but I have no idea what bios are, or where to find them.
What’s the move if someone doesn’t have Twitter or IG? Asking for a friend.
Totally in for this
Anyone in the Montgomery AL area? No? Yea I’m not surprised
Originally from Alabama and familiar with Montgomery…God speed out there
Worked in Montgomery for over a year. Loved me some Biscuits baseball games.
If anyone in KC is looking for what was described above let me know.
moving to kc at some point, v glad to hear there are people there besides my boyfriend
I swear I’ve seen mentions of a KC PGP crew before? I’m in whenever someone puts one together.
Check the sub Reddit. Diet Dew created a KC Group Me on Friday!
Thank you! Yes I set up a group me for KC, check out the subreddit. The hope is to us that to organize a meetup.
Moved away from KC this past summer. Bummed now.
I tried going through that on my phone but the link is cut off, maybe if you try reposting it as a comment again
Link work just fine for me but I’ll post it again in the comments.
Fall golf is undefeated
Boston folks, hmu. Let’s get a groupme. Just moved here and am a fish out of water other than working and drinking alone.
Always down for that. I full/go to grad school both full time but in my limited free time I’m down for a PGP meetup.
Omg sorry words are. I work/go to grad school both full time. Clearly my brain is fried.
Words are hard, JFC I’m a mess.
Moved to the North Shore, don’t know many people, am always down!
I live on the north shore in Beverly. Just moved here 6 weeks ago. Let’s explore.
Anyone in the Indy area? Need a good bar and brunch group now that I’m back home from college and trying this thing called adulting.
Might be a shot in the dark but anybody in the southwestern CT area? Chicago transplant here
Titans games are a blast; I attend several a year. Could talk best brunch spots for hours. Music city food and wine festival is this weekend–a hefty price tag but always worth it.
