Everyone is looking for an edge. Seriously, when’s the last time you really got jacked up after drinking a K-cup? Yep, it’s been a while. Not surprisingly, the wildmen of Silicon Valley are really taking things up a notch.
According to a recent Rolling Stone piece, there’s a growing number of young professionals microdosing LSD to enhance productivity. Data collected by James Fadiman, author of The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide, showed a high number of self-reporting experimenters in the San Francisco area. Saw that coming.
According to Fadiman, the typical user is an “übersmart twentysomething” looking to become more innovative. Fadiman also noted that for some, “regular microdosing has alleviated a bevy of disorders, including depression, migraines and chronic-fatigue syndrome, while increasing outside-the-box thinking.”
So what the hell is a microdose?
Per Rolling Stone:
A microdose is about a tenth of the normal dose – around 10 micrograms of LSD, or 0.2-0.5 grams of mushrooms. The dose is subperceptual – enough, says Rick Doblin, founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, “to feel a little bit of energy lift, a little bit of insight, but not so much that you are tripping.”
Makes sense. You can’t just post up at your standup desk and tweak out all day, or lay back in a beanbag with your laptop open while you stare at the ceiling.
I’ve got a feeling we’ll be seeing a spike in startups looking to keep up with the tech gods on the West Coast. Dudes are going to get fried. Me? I went through a bullet coffee phase a couple years ago, but that’s about as wild as I plan on getting. Consult your doctor or shaman before microdosing, guys..

I’m going to create a startup that sells psychedelic/kaleidoscope ceiling fans to Silicon Valley startups.
Pretty sure that Ozzy Osbourne did the same thing for two years, and we all saw how that worked out. I won’t knock it though, do your thing people. I’ll stick to my uppers.
Its actually much safer than doing something like adderall or any other amphetamine derivative, plus no “hangover” and non adductive. The crazy part of it is that it’s a fairly viable alternative to what people are doing now.
There are no long-term clinical trials on microdosing LSD, so the reality is we have no idea how ‘dangerous’ it. I’m not saying this activity IS dangerous, but it’s also irresponsible to say it’s not.
