A Houston-based energy company is making headlines this week after giving all of its employees $100,000 bonuses this Christmas.
Hilcorp, one the largest privately held oil and natural gas companies in the US, gave all 1,380 employees the six figure bonus after the company hit its goals this year. That’s 138 million dollars in bonuses. Holy shit.
From Fox 26:
All 1,380 employees at Hilcorp, one the largest privately held oil and natural gas exploration and production companies in the United States, received a $100,000 Christmas bonus this year.
“It’s just a true gift and I don’t think that myself along with everyone is not going to give less than 100% every day” said receptionist Amanda Thompson.
Hilcorp was named on the 2015 ‘Fortune 100 ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list for the third year in a row.
Thompson says that in 2010, the company met a 5 year goal, and all employees were treated to the choice of a $50,000 car or $35,000 in cash.
“It was surreal, it was a dream come true” says Thompson.
She plans to keep the money in her bank account for a rainy day.
What’s the catch here? Surely there is a catch, right?
*Furiously scrolls the Hilcorp careers page for ‘Content Manager’* *Finds nothing*
Hilcorp was named one of the best companies to work for in the country for a third year in a row, and it is very likely that it will not have that title stripped from them in the near future.
Think about all the hard work you do, all the hours you put in, all the ass you have to kiss. Now, realize you could have avoided all of that and just hopped on as a receptionist at Hilcorp and made like $150,000. God dammit. I’m good at answering phones. I’m good at scheduling. Hell, I’ll clean the whole fucking office if you need me to.
I guess the tradeoff for me is that I don’t have to live in the miserable garbage swampland known as Houston. But if Hilcorp ever comes calling, I’ll absolutely drop what I’m doing, pack up my shit, and be down in Harris County by the end of the night..
