Someone sent in a tip to Gawker today about an absurd email thread between BP (British Petroleum, for those who haven’t read news in 25 years) employees who were all CC’d on an email that was meant for just two people. Turns out the email got sent out to hundreds of people.
It started out simply enough, with someone asking that they remove a transferred employee from a list serve.
Hi Shahid,
We have removed Anant Prakash from the OMS Navigator Users distribution list. Let us know if you have any concerns.
The original sender accidentally sent it out to THOUSANDS of BP employees. The tipster thinks that it was actually sent to every single employee of BP. BP employs 85,900 people.
Dear All,
Kindly ignore last email from navigator team. By mistake ,we sent it to all users.
Please stop copying everyone please
Do we all really need to be cc’d in on this??
As it goes with a gigantic, multinational corporation, people assumed it was just sent to the wrong email.
And Im afraid you may have the wrong David Burns sorry
Similarly I think I was added to the distribution in error
I have no idea who this is and can you remove me from this email
Please remove me also.
Soon, they had a revolt on their hands.
Ok we have all been added in error and the guy who sent the original email has already recognised his mistake!
Can we all stop sending the same message!
And of course no one was going to ignore the fact that EVERYONE WAS SENDING THE EXACT SAME EMAIL OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN BECAUSE WE ARE ALL VERY SPECIAL UNIQUE SNOWFLAKES.
OK it is ignored
PLEASE TAKE ME OFF ALL THESE REDICULOUS REPLIES!
I don’t need to be copied – I not of this forum!
Read the entire thing over at Gawker. It is hilarious.

If I ever work for a giant corporation, on my last day, I am fucking over productivity in epic fashion, just like this, but with a high priority tag.
Old people.
Exact same thing happened while I was deployed, except it was sent to every servicemember in Kuwait. The emails lasted about a week.
“British Petroleum, for those who haven’t read news in 25 years”
The company’s official name is now actually BP, not British Petroleum.
