If people want to do crossfit to try and get in shape, better than sit there and get fat, eating crap all day. This opinion is funny but doesn’t hit on the reasons why I can’t stand crossfit people. The basic issues I have start with the cult aspect. Not one of my friends that crossfit ever stop posting about it! Like this article says, no one cares what the WOD was or if you PR’d for the second straight workout named after a girl that has little relationship to the lifts involved. Secondly, crossfiters annoy me when they say they’re the fittest athletes. I rowed in college, I can row a 500m all they way to a marothon on an erg (try doing it in a single cause you’ll flip or completely suck) faster than you and I’m 175 pounds and not ripped. I can find a football player who could crush people on 90% of those workouts and who wouldn’t lose in a single football related exercise. Crossfit gets you in a kind of shape but when I work out and go on a run with those friends they can hardly go 2 miles at a decent pace without huffing and puffing. Also, technique is terrible. It’s not hard to row on an erg correctly like it is in a boat, but my friends send me video and ask for advice about rowing because they waste so much energy. And even then they don’t listen because I’m not a crossfitter and don’t know how they workout. Lastly, kipping pull ups or whatever are not pull ups. Don’t cheat by throwing your entire bodyweight behind your arms to do 50 “pull ups” and brag about it because you can only do 15 actual pull ups. Regardless, get out and do something to stay in shape. Run, erg, play pick up games, crossfit, whatever! Just do it and let me know about milestone accomplishments that you are particularly proud of because I will be happy for those moments, not every other day moments. It loses it’s meaning at some point.
