In response to the last question: I started going grey at 17 and was full on salt & pepper by 23. I started dying my hair and looked absolutely ridiculous. It wasn’t until I was 26 that I just let it be. Own what you got, bro.
I can breakdown my overall shitiness based solely on my wardrobe at that particular time:
– Grade school me wore JNCO jeans
– Jr. High me wore puka shell necklaces and all of the cargo pants
– High School me wore ONLY Abercrombie
– College me was just such a piece of shit I don’t even know where to begin
– Early 20’s me wore Express on a daily basis
Theory: Todd, after striking out with Claire and receiving a firm talking to from John, will realize his lack of long term prospects, or even lack of stabilization in life, outside of Girl and will propose to her once they are both back in non-descript major city. A sad, yet relevant and relatable, tale as old as time.
My friends and I take one Friday out of the year to ditch out around 2pm CST and watch a rugby match in Chicago. Today is that day. The beer will flow like wine.
I have an Association dinner tonight so fancy plated dinner with open bar. Likely a filet with a vegetable and potato side as these events to be. I’m guessing dessert will be something chocolate with a raspberry glaze but don’t quote me on that.
Got married recently and my (now) wife got me a used Breitling Bentley. Significantly more affordable than her ring but god damn if it is not my favorite gift of all time (after my Ghostbusters playhouse when I was 5). I wear it pretty much daily and consistently get compliments on it.
You always hear the higher-ups talking about how when they were in your position they would “burn the midnight oil and sleep in their office” yadda yadda yadda but they tell you that because it’s true and, sometimes, that’s what it takes. You won’t believe me but you will look back (somewhat) fondly on those war stories in the future.
For the first 6 years of my career I really mailed it in. Did the bare minimum and didn’t really give a shit about the outcomes. 2.5 years ago I started a new job and remember telling my (now) wife that I was actually going to try and try hard with this new gig as I never had before. I can tell you the feeling you have right now (is it worth it? this sucks) doesn’t go away. You will always question if your effort is worth it. But I can say with some degree of confidence that people do notice the hard work and there is light at the end of the tunnel be it through additional compensation or title increase. Stick it out bro. Eventually it will be worth it.
I once told the wife her spaghetti squash concoction wasn’t too bad. I was just being nice. It was terrible. That was 3 years ago and now she makes it once a month.

I joined an overpriced health club in Chicago solely because there was a wet sauna. Can confirm it does work so long as you don’t throw up in it.

Hombre…I like that. Let’s bring it back
Big meeting at 1:30 today. Will hit my quarterly quota when he SIGNS ON THE LINE WHICH IS DOTTED!
Let’s party, indeed. Being drunk in a hotel lobby after a reception is a time honored tradition.

UPDATE: dessert was a sorbet. It was ok

If my wife could afford a Bentley believe me I wouldn’t be working this shitty job

My wife prefers Perrier as well…
