Born in raised in the South I was taught to address people by Sir/Ma’am and Mr./Miss/Mrs. Especially my elders but not just my elders. I’m 32 now and I answer my young nieces and nephews with “Yes sir” and “Yes ma’am”.
Ever heard of southern hospitality? It’s not fake; people are genuinely nicer in the South and it shows.
