If I had a boyfriend that just randomly proposed one day without us discussing engagement first, I’d probably say no. It’s a life changing decision that I personally think should be mutually discussed and not some huge surprise. The proposal itself can be a surprise, but an engagement definitely shouldn’t be a shock.
My fiance’s family paid for his brother’s entire wedding, albeit a smaller wedding than ours will be. Now that we’re getting married, his parents haven’t said a word about paying for any aspect of it. We would never ask them for money but it has irked us a bit just because of the clear favoritism shown towards his brother (which is a common theme in his family). They’ve also demanded that we invite some of their friends who we don’t know, which we’ve gone along with just to keep peace. I’m not a big fan of them and would never want to feel indebted to them though, so on one hand maybe it’s good they’re not helping.
Yeah I can’t relate to really anything Will said. Picked up our mutt from the shelter and aside from dog food and her annual vaccinations, I don’t really spend anything on her. She doesn’t like toys of any kind, has never chewed or ruined anything I own, can happily spend 10+ hours a day at home with free reign of the house and has never peed or gotten into anything. She prefers sleeping in so I usually have to be the one to wake her up in the morning. We take her for a daily walk and after that she’s content to just chill. Easiest dog in the world and she was free at the shelter.

Can confirm that I’ve walked through 4 inches of snow in a short skirt and crop top in State College
