been glutarded for about ten years now. it seems like a death sentence but you do learn to live normally. I’ll be the first to admit that there’s nothing like a doughy slice of pizza at 3AM or snagging a piece of cake at the office birthday party, but time will heal the pain. in the mean time, be sure to check out Omission beer, Udi’s frozen baked goods at the grocery store, and hunt down your best local GF bakery. and don’t forget- ice cream is your new best friend. hope this helps and keep your head up!

  • kschiebs 9 years ago on My Office Repeatedly Contacted Me During My Wedding Weekend Because Nothing Is Sacred

I work in quite a similar office, and everyday (before I go home in search of a new career) I see how misaligned the values of the office are. Last month, a co-worker won “employee of the month” because he of course is a great worker, but in the write up by his manager, he was praised for attending a conference call while he was on vacation with his family. Why in God’s name are we praising that? I am not impressed. I am the opposite of impressed. Our controller easily puts in 60 hours a week and frequently comes into the office on sundays. She always plans her seldom-taken vacations around mondays because she “has to get payroll done”. This is not what life should be about. And speaking of Germany, they also do not allow overtime- get your work done during business hours and get out. I don’t understand why this is an impossible concept elsewhere.

  • kschiebs 9 years ago on My Sister’s Getting Married and I Kind Of Hate It

My sister got married two years ago and I felt the same way. Conversations dedicated only to them do not stop once the wedding is over, unfortunately- just wait until they buy a house. Every family dinner is focused on the next mini-project on the damn thing. I sit quietly at my seat, contemplating my choice to get a Master’s degree as I earn a VERY entry-level salary and still live at home.

Buffalo area as well? I have a dog that resembles the pup from Little Rascals (black eye patch and all), and am moderately basic as is evident by my profile photo. Also, I am medically gluten free but regardless of reason, adds to my basic-ness and my expertise on all things cider.

I am on board with the commune idea. Honestly, I can handle the snow for the most part, but the below-zero temperatures for month-long stretches can go fuck themselves. I’ve already got the scaries about what Buffalo is going to experience this winter.
